The following are a few clubs I went to that are considered part of the locals scene. Most ppl in Bangkok either don't like or can't afford to go to some of the more upscale clubs. I hit these clubs with some of the ppl I met at RCA on New Years eve.
These scenes are pretty much farang and professional free from what I can remember. Most of the kids just order 100 Pipers. Great places to hit on chicks...
In the Chatuchak area, or Jatujak if u prefer, there's a whole row of small clubs. Not sure what street exactly but it was a main road and you'll see a bunch of clubs in an area about 100 yards long, lots of ppl outside so u won't miss it. In the back, it's kinda like the Soi 4 scene on Ratchadaphisek. I went to two of these clubs. Cha-Bar and Yok Adok (sp?). Cha-Bar would be the bigger of the two clubs, small compared to Slim or any of the RCA clubs, but a lot of fun. Cha-Bar had a good live band on both nights I went there and plenty of cute young TGs. Yok Adok is on the backside of the street and sports a lot of the same crowd. I believe 2 bottles of JW Red and mixers came out to just under 2k at Cha-Bar. Yok Adok should be around the same price. They play a mixture of HipHop, dance, and Thai music with live bands.
Over in Khaosan, my friends like to go to Sanook. Most nights there were HipHop and because of the location, Farangs would often wander in. No live band, just a DJ and upstairs is where you want to be. It's a pretty small place but lots of cute faces. Again, cheap drinks and mostly locals. Thursday through Saturday is a good time to go.
Soi 4 (Soi See) is off of Ratchadaphisek, all taxi drivers know this place. It's just a plethora of small clubs and you can hop from one to the next ordering beers till u find the one you like. Predominantly locals and really easy to explore. Most TGs I meet go here when they want to go clubbing.
The girls and guys I've met at these clubs work your average jobs. Some in retail, some sell drinks at restaurants, students, office workers, etc. Real down to earth kinda ppl.

WOW, I can't believe you've been to the clubs near Chatuchak! I go there about twice a month for the past 5 months, and I have NEVER seen another farang there unless I brought them with me. The place is really great, about 15 small clubs, packed every weekend, and lots of people are interested in talking to farang cause they never see any there. If you're talking to a taxi driver the name of the place is "Oh Tah Goh." It's kinda hard to pronounce and its a problem to get a taxi that knows where you want to go sometimes.
In Khao San, Sanook is a good club, Bangkok Bar and Suzie are also fun, but Suzie can get way overcrowded. Actually last night I saw a huge fight in front of Suzie, and bunch of Thai guys beating the crap out of each other. A dozen tables people were eating at got knocked over and thrown around, and a dude got stabbed. Be careful in these all Thai places, cause some of these 22 year old Thai guys can't hold their liquor and end up fighting each other.
Soi 4 is really fun, very few foriegners there, and it seems to be pretty much the most popular nightspot in Bangkok for Thai people right now. Packed every single day, and cheap as well. And the best part of Soi 4 is you can walk up the road 3 minutes and drink until 6am on soi 6!
Check out Liberty Building in Thonglor badfish, I think you'd like that place a lot if you enjoyed the places you listed already.

I've been out to "oh tah goh" a few times as well. Usually go to a bar called "Tessant." Ecclectic mix of Thai girls, guys, gays, and kathoeys.
It's a cool little scene and very inexpensive.

Opti, is Liberty Building the place where Ashley's is? I went there my first week in BKK and it was dead but I think it was cuz it was a tuesday.
I'm not Thai, but I look Thai so I fit right in.
The locals scene was a lot of fun to me I think cuz of the company I was with. I networked with some gals I met on New Years and they had really cool friends.
These clubs are the kinda places I like to go to see what the local color is like. I don't travel to Thailand to hit up the same type of clubs I find here in the states.

2 months ago Liberty Building was the hottest place in Thonglor (yes, Ashley Rumors is there). Bombay Bar (partly owned by Lukkate) was packed every night and the whole place was a complete zoo at the weekend. However, it has suffered very badly with the recent success of RCA - Slim, Flix, Astra, Prop Bar, Route 66 E/W etc.. Last time I was there it was half deserted (as was H1 just next door). The reopening of Escudos probably hasnt helped either. My guess is that Liberty Building's time has been and gone.

I havent been to "Oh Tah Goh" for quite some time but when I was there I did see another farang there...only once though. I am not Thai but am Asian so I dont stand out too much.
Good bars around there...I used to hang out there with my ex until I found out she was getting engaged to some Thai dude behind my back! Maybe its time to re-visit the place! I remember there were some cuties there...speaking a bit of Thai will defintely help.

While there are now very few farang there, the crowd is definitely on the "tuan" end of the Thai night life scene. Most of the people there are students or working in shopping malls, etc. There are quite a few technical college guys going there from time to time; we had a few problems with guys coming in with guns, knives, etc etc.
I have seen more fights here than probably any other area (excluding farang areas, where it seems some middle aged yobos on holiday cannot control themselves). Some of them nasty.
That said, it certainly is cheap, and no doubt will now be inundated with BT website members, looking to find dodgy uni students. You'll definitely find the lower end uni students here; Turakij Bundit, etc as well as the technical college types.
But be happy and frinedly, and for sure you can have a great time. I would have thought it would be a struggle if you did not speak Thai at this place....
BTW It is an acronym (LIke the FBI) so you say Or Tor Gor (all rhyming with the word or or law). Lots of good Thai music at many of the places; this place was really big 1 years ago before Soi 4 got going - similar crowd and actually many of the same owners in both places.
