I think you have gone over the top with your paranoia, as it seems that the next thing you say is about you dreaming of the Iraqis scuds hitting your home town bus station, do you. Yes, the Iraqis are everywhere and most likely even in your neighbourhood and probably in Korat, but I do not thing they will give a shit about you if they saw you walking with your TG in the streats of Korat. I am sure you condition will ease up once Bush is out of the white house, never heard of such BS.

- as far as upcountry places go, I find Korart [ Nakon Ratchasima] pretty good, it is Thais 4th largest city - actually are a number of Nightclubs/discoes there, a few opposite Klang Plaza, - there is one old hotel where a few long term ex-pats hang out, and yes, they probably have been there since vietnam, but by and large I've found the farang is still a novelty on the korart nightscene, some good MPs around, but most tucked away - as to hotels, I usually stay at the Sima thani, nice, 4 star I guess, around 1400 bt, on the way into the city, not far past the huge Korart Mall ... and is there ever some good sorts wandering around there !! Things to look at apart from TGs, probably the Khamer sites of Phimai [ 50 ks north ] or the impressive "Khao Phanom Rung" about 80 ks west, actually in Buriram province, are worth a look - you can of course fly to Korat, or buriram - but also a good, mostly double lane, 3 hour drive from bangkok.

XP67 - I'm sure you have been to Korat and so know what you are talking about. I told my friend about Korat but he didnt know what I was talking about, he said your description sounded more like Surin. I dont know?
I'll be staying at the Royal Princess Korat, anyone stayed there before. I have a very full day of hiking planned and will be getting back to the hotel pretty late, I dont know if I will have the energy to hit the discos/karaokes. Anything real close to there or would I be better off asking the concierge and tipping them?

Yes Tyler, I have been to Korat and I know what I am talking about. I am talking about Korat, not Surat Thani nor Surin. If the Iraqis had settled in surin or in Surat Thani they would not be called Koratis. I have stayed at the Royal Princess Korat many times. They have a room with a Shrine facing in the direction of Mecca and there is usually a group of Koratis in there on their knees beating there heads against the floor and saying their prayers to Muhammed. This is also where the Mayor comes to say his prayers. Be careful, especially if Bush attacks Iraq while you are at the Royal Princess.
