If it's still there(two years ago) and you have a chance there is a bar with some type of western cowboy theme to it on the outside that plays live Issan music. I'm sure a tuk tuk driver will know where it is..Damn did I have a good time. I was the only farang in the place and people could not have been nicer. Not pay place but plenty of local gals wanting to be friendly..I went a few times and had a great time every night. Thais out having fun..I was staying at the Charoen hotel and it was walking distance..

There is a good National Museum there. The lake there is very pleasant also. There are a couple of malls, including a new Central, which I didn't visit the last time there. Three soapies that I saw there. In the past I visited the Kosa one which was good.
Further afield, Ubonrat has a nice dam and golf course.

I just got back from a weekend in Khon Kaen - stayed at the Pullman, which must be one of the cheapest and pleasantest 4 star hotels I have ever patronised. It even has a pretty good brothel in the basement (aka Underground) called Cleos. Some attractive girls there but the prettier ones seem to get booked up by local hiso kids who book karaoke rooms there and drink themselves silly. I went there with a local pal on Friday evening and we were a bit like invisible men as the girls were directed towards kids throwing their money around like idiots in the cause of bigging themselves up. However, I later went on a quieter Sunday night and had a pleasant interlude with a lively provider called something like Fen. Not a beauty, but she knew what to do. The damage was 600 to the bar and 1500 to the girl plus tip for good service.
Also in the area of the Pullman there are some nice bars including a complex called Rad that has a coyote bar with some stunningly good looking girls who actually dance really well. Again you can call a girl to sit with you, but this seems to involve paying a packet on lady drinks and with it being a coyote bar I'm not sure about the possibility of bar fining. It would probably be expensive to say the least.
Slightly more budget conscious options may be available in massage parlours like Caesar, Villa and Kosa. My friend and I checked all of them out on the Saturday afternoon and attendance by the girls was sparse at that time, although it would probably have been better after 6PM. Other commitments prevented us from exploring that option. Of the girls there the ones that were genuinely attractive all fell into the 2000 baht plus category. There were cheaper options but to call them homely would have been a compliment. I ended up with a model at Kosa, who was very attractive, but the doofuses running the place couldn't make up their minds how much they would try and soak me for and the price kept changing. I managed to agree a price that wasn't their most extravagant, but still did not meet my cheap charlie aspirations. All in all, I would say that Khon Kaen is a pleasant town with good food and drink available and some pleasant P4P - but it isn't an especially cheap option either.
