I am planning a trip to Bkk last week of December. How busy is it? Or other word: how expensive/dificult is it in terms of Go-gos and restaurants?

KK, all the old hands seem to be in sleeping mode so I will do the job:
Don't expect much hassle with go-gos and restaurants during these days, there are plenty and Christmas will not affect them very much.
For New Years Eve in a special restaurant or club make sure to have a reservation, a few days in advance should suffice, but only if you want something special, otherwise no problem...
A different thing with hotels and prices: often fully booked (early booking required) and painful peak season rates both in BKK and in the holiday resorts...

Also a lot of Hotels/Resorts insist on the payment for a Special Christmas or New year dinner. Flights at that time of year can also be a problem,although are generally easier in between Christmas and New year.

Last week of December is a delightful time to visit. Weather is near ideal- it can be the coolest time of year. Many Bangkokians [including bar girls] head home to the provinces to visit family for the approaching New Year. Not that they all leave, there's still plenty to see and do and bar-fine.

for years I flew in on the 26th, leaving here on the 25th
it was great.. no problems
the bars are at full service for the high season..
as noted if you want something special to do on New Year's eve, make advance plans..
some of the bars jack up their bar fines that night...
If you are not into drunken crowds, then find a sweet young thing and take her to dinner.. perhaps hit a night spot that is not so crazy and bring in the new year..
Then start the new year off with a bang (or blow, whatever?)

I had wanted to plan my upcomingtrip at that time...but dates didnt work out with work here in the states.
the 3 years I lived in LOS this was my favorite time of year (except for missing the family back in the US)
As stated, weather is great...crowds are not crazy (exception being NY eve)
I always got a kick out of the bar and welcome girls in santa hats "melly clismas..melly clismas"
you will have a great trip...I recommend new years eve on a chill island....my ko chang new years eve is by far more memorable than teh ones in bkk....but thats just me

Following on from Oaktoad and everyone....
The week between Xmas and NY is a great time to be in Bangkok - I live here and love it.... Atmosphere great, bars are full...
And if you fly out on the 25th you can often get really good deals with the airlines.
Hotels will stitch you for Xmas dinner and NY dinner, especially the top ones, and hotel rates are high, but BKK is a great place to be at that time of year.

My first trip to LOS was last year... I left Los Angeles on Christmas morning and returned on Jan 2nd. It was a great time to be there and it did not seem too crowded in Bangkok.
This year I am going to take the Thai Air direct flight on Christmas and return on Jan 5. I can't think of a better Christmas gift to myself than a trip to Thailand.

Just for info, X'mas isn't a public holiday.
Still, working in Bkk has its great shares of public holidays, 5th King's birthday, 10th Constituition Day, but with the New Constitution.. hmmzz.. 31st New Year's Eve.
Cost-wise : it's Thailand, cost, what cost?
Difficulty-wise: not much diff, except in the areas of hotel bookings
Weather-wise: coolest period in bangkok, cooler still in Northern regions
Girls-wise: many head back home to see papa+mama+baby, giving their bodies a rest from all the banging
Still, many parties to be enjoyed.

I came ( in ?) to Bangkok for Christmas 1996.
Wonderful party.
Particularly at the Star of Light.
It hasn't stopped.
Anyway, I've lost my return ticket, so I wont mind when they put the lights out.
