Ok, this is a problem I am going to have fairly soon. Will be in BKK Thailand for a few months maybe longer. Will be working out side of Thailand but returning frequently, not frequently enough to rent anywhere. Problem is where I am going and what I am doing require me to leave all my cameras and technology behind. So I need a safe lock up where I can leave a few Thousand $$$ worth of technology. Suggestions?

There's always commercial storage units... http://www.bangkokselfstorage.com/solutions.html Bangkok Self Storage at 3249 Rama 4 Road, between Asoke and Sukumvit. 2 square metre - 17 square meters. 02-2611516 New Self Storage which is past the Carrefour; I read that the foreign owner John Elliott mobile 01-889-3106. Pricing (8,000 baht per month for 17 sq meters) ; in the heart of the city. If this is more space than you need, you might want to try a bowling alley or pool hall that rents lockers to players.

Stay for one night at a nice hotel. They will then put (free of charge) your belongings in the 'hotel storage'. If the items are expensive, I would recommend putting the items in a large suitcase etc, and locking it. Give the guy a few dollars and they will be very "considerate".

When I go to SEAsia I'm always in and out of BKK, but for the very reason you mention--storing expensive tech gear--I always rent an apartment in BKK for the whole month (even though I'm not there for up to two weeks of that time). It might cost a bit more than other options that have been suggested (I pay 13K for the month), but to me it's totally worth it in peace of mind and convenience.

For about 3 years, I was in and out of BKK, and I stayed at a service apartment, and kept A LOT of stuff in storage there, and never had a problem with it. I would recommend a Pelican lockable case for two reasons with tech gear, 1 security, 2 to keep the changing humidity out of it.

http://www.vptower.com/ No "onsite security" besides the usual 24-hour "guard" (some guy they gave a whistle to) who sits by a booth in the driveway; 24-hour desk clerk to buzz you in to the elevator area. They clean the rooms twice a week; furnished with TV and fridge, aircon, all the usual stuff.

Ha! I kept an apartment at VP for a few years... same story, never a problem with security.. helps that you need a key to enter the elevator area. But you can still slip in if someone else opens the door. The only problem there was that there were a couple of people jump off the building over the years. For a 1 bedroom I was paying 19,000 then add power, water cable etc...... By the way, Kwangs Seafood at the end of the Soi is an excellent seafood restraunt.
