Scruffy if you want to go swimming you can take a speedboat for about an hour or so trip to a nearby island (Do not know the name??) that has a nice beach with huts laid out serving Thai food and drink and the water is clean. A nice way to spend a Sunday bring your own TG.

The island is Koh Larn. Other options are either the far end of Jomtien beach although that's still nothing special or checking out wongamat up Naklua way which is about as good as it get's on the mainland nearby.
To be honest though, if you're spending time on the beach in Pattaya then that's time being wasted. Just my 2 satang.

Having lived in Pattaya for the better part of 15 years, the water in Pattaya Bay is not good for swimming. It is dirty and polluted and should be avoided. One thing you can do is rent a beach chair with umbrella and watch the world go by. You can drink beer in copious amounts, therey negating the need to swallow dirty water and relax. If swimming is your thing, get a hotel with a pool.
I would not recommend Tony's for anybody. The place is extremely expensive and the touts will force their wares on you. This is a place to avoid.
Try out the new Pattaya Beer Garden at the entrance to Walking Street. I don't know about now but they are promoting to get free lancers in there. Perhaps they have succeeded. If not, get you a bride for the day and drop in anyway. The view is nice and it is reported the ladies enjoy it there.
Get somebody to take you to Soi 6. I would suggest you not go by yourself the first time. Surely somebody from the forum is there now and can escort you to the place. All I can say is the place will blow your mind, along with any thing else you need to get blown.
Enjoy it and relax.

Scruffy, you really need to hook up with West, he knows his way around, had probably f***ed half the gogo girls in Pattaya, and can take you for a great afternoon on Soi 6 (avoid the ST rooms at Route69).
Hey West, I vaguely remember a place on Soi 6 where the girls where shorts or tops that are the color of military fatigues. Right? Maybe this is right up Scruffy's alley.

Scruffy - sit back on the beach & drink the beer as XPC says. Then just use the sea when you need to take a leak. Use the hotel pool for swimming.
You will get approached by plenty of women as you sit back & relax on the beach & they will be only too happy to show you the way back to your hotel if you say you are lost.

Beach - Jomtien. Water is ok, not same as Phuket, Krabi etc but ok for daytime relaxing. And cheap. Nightime take songtaew to Pataya. Silver Star go go, beach end of walking street. Then soi 15 Whats Up and Angelwitch.
