Back to topic...
I always enjoy the Beer Garden, even though I never take any girls from there. The girls are average (at best), and since they're all sitting down, I can't see their ass, which is the only thing that matters to me in life.
True, many of the guys in there are slightly goofy looking, which calls into question my own looks, I guess. Maybe I'm one of them, and don't know it. 
But I derive some entertainment in absorbing the entire atmosphere. I love sitting there, and trying to guess what life must be like for the various guys surrounding the bar and drinking beer in front of those massive blowing fans. Perhaps some guy is a butcher from the a cold dreary town in eastern Europe. Or another guy works in some sort of factory in Germany. It really fascinates me how people live such different, diverse and random lives from all corners of the planet, yet our worlds collide once a year in some random beer garden off a side street in Thailand, away from all of our individuals frustrations of life.
Everyone sits there, anxiously looking for an unexpected adventure and memories to last them through the next year of work and life. As different as we may think we are from one another, sometimes we're all just the same. And the Beer Garden has a weird way of reminding me that I'm not quite as different as everyone else. I like that.
If a girl approaches me, and I have absolutely no interest in talking to her, I simply ask her for a 20 minute back rub while I sip my beer under the fans and look around. This way I don't feel so guilty blowing her off, and she stays behind me, preventing us struggling through some meaningless conversation. I give her 200 baht. She's happy. I'm relaxed. Problem solved.

Well said!! and I agree. I like the place; it has character (or is that characters?)
And unlike a bar with regular "employees", the BG7 is really like that box of chocolate - you never know what you're going to find.
Every time I've been there, I've seen at least 1 girl I could walk out with. Unfortunately, most are already occupied - timing does not seem to be my strength there.
But having that hit and miss feel, the uncertainness of it all, I do like.

Agreed, beer garden is a great place to kill an hour over a couple of beers and wonderful "people watching" 
In feb, I was chatting with these 2 yanks that were sitting next to me and one dude had an artifical leg and we were just discussing the upcoming superbowl and in walks this dude at about 1 in the afternoon just covered in blood and bangkok street muck, just piss drunk...
He then stumbles over to our elongated table and gets his balance at the very end, and the guy with the prostetic leg just turns his head to me and says, "now, that is a site to see! you cant beat this place for a cast of characters can you?"
The guy yelled out, incoherently, for a beer and some thai guy comes out and offers a wet nap to the guy, but he cant open the packet so the thai employee just politely escorts him to the entrance and he wandered off into the bangkok day.....
A piss drunk guy normally would not have attracted attention but the fact he had blood and street sewage all over his clothes and face turned a bunch of heads 
As for the girls that approach me (which most of the time are average at best), I normally buy a beer for them and make small talk...
One time there, I was having a beer and a rather attractive & very petite girl sat next to me and after chatting with her was considering an afternoon ST romp but during our small talk I asked if she had any kids and she had two...
so without asking I reached down and lifted up her T-Shirt and her belly looked like a bowl of lava and I quickly changed my mind and was glad I checked

There never seems to be a question of LT, or ST in beer garden. it's always ST. I seem to remember the selection being better in the daytime. Before the BF, husband gets home from work, although there is a large portion of single parents working daytime before the kid gets home from school.

the nice thing about BGSoi7 is the constant turnover of girls. I give myself 90 min in there, to see who rolls in. I also find the way to get a cutie to come in is to start talking to a girl who I think is ST material and within 10-15 min a cuter girl will arrive (standard quirk of the universe).
so I excuse myself to the bathroom, and then hit up the new blood. It's a little ruthless maybe, but I'm the one paying, after all.

Agreed. Every time I walk in, I never know who I'll see (which can be a bit frustrating if I'm looking for the girl who I saw leave accompanied the day before). You go to a bar, you'll see the same girls - which can be nice, but it's the BG7 that gives you that 1st day BKK every day you visit.
