Anchorage - main taxi stand is LEFT after you come through customs... go past all of the 'taxi' stands inside (these are limos) and go outside and you will see a little booth. From there you will definitely get on a meter, and you will have the taxi details given to you on a piece of paper in case you have a problem. Should be no more than 300 Bt to Suk area.
They wil add 50 baht to the fare, and you will have to pay tolls.

Plain English guys.
At International. After you pick up your gear and pass through immigration, do not go outside. Get on the escalators/lifts and go up to the departures section.
Walk outside and you will see taxis dropping off customers. Ask the taxi driver, 'How much to Suk including tolls'. Anything over 200b (in peak hour could be 300) you are getting sucked in. It is OK if he puts on the meter, probably 180b all up.
If they say 400-600, say, 'No' and go to the next taxi. You may have to ask 2,3,4 taxis. Otherwise dont whinge, pay 600-700b.

Hi!
Ive just booked my flight to LOS and it costed me more than I had anticipated. The result is that I now have less money to spend on a hotel. I will be in BBK for about 30 days.
Can anyone recommend the CHEAPEST hotels or places that cater for long-time guests? Because im staying for quite a long time, even a few dollars saved per day will make a huge difference to the overal price.
Im also very interested in places that have a 3 days - get one free kind of discount.

Each time I have gone to departures, I have told the driver where I want to go and 90% of the time he puts on the meter without asking. If he doesn't put it on, I tell him to put it on, and only one time (out of about 40 trips) did he not want to put the meter on.

Easy.
Say "Meter krup". If he doesn't put on the meter, say:
"Mai bai. Mai ow" and get out of the taxi.
Like CG say, most of the taxis will put on the meter without asking. If they don't, the next taxi most likely will.

Oct 04 for a month was 15k, plus elec & water (1500). I stayed on the 3rd floor, big room, serviced and quiet, guest friendly, restaurant, enormous bed, pool, gym passable, safe at reception. End of soi 4 Suk near Thai Tobacco Co, hotel tuk tuk to Nana Plaza area, 389 metres away.

CG and anybody else grabbing a taxi from departures knows the system - any taxi driver picking up anybody at departures KNOWS that they know the system. It is a mark of respect, or at least a nod to your acquired knowledge, that they simply hit the meter without being asked.
Option C Not a great option if you have a huge amout of baggage.
Take the stairs from the arrival area that lead to the railway station. At the top there is a fire escape type stairway on the right leading down to the highway. There is a small assembly area at the bottom of the stairs that gets used as a taxi rank (if empty the first passing taxi as you start down the stairs will pull in and be waiting for you). I doubt even 1 in 40 of these guys will try the no meter routine, they know "you know too much". Enjoy.

If anyone challenged a lady that I invited for breakfast there would be hell to pay,,,,SHE is my Fken guest, what's the problem,, here's 1000BHt no FARK off.
I am normally even tempered but I could not accept that behavouir from a place that I paid as a customer.
