I don't recall that I have ever been Biffed nor do I recall ever Biffing anyone.
Given the scenario outlined by CG: if the girl begins her dance routine and returns to tell you she has allready been barfined  , it would seem that you have been Biffed and:
1. she knew the guy from before; or he looked trustworthy enough (or moreso than you) that she would go with him without negotiation of contract duration, scope of work, prices, etc.,
2. she is desperate for $$ and you are moving too slow,
3. you did not interest her in the least.
I find it difficult to believe that, if any one of these factors is missing, you can be Biffed. Moreover, you can not successfully compete with yourself.

I have always refered to this practice as " Guzumping" a common word used for similiar practices in property purchasing here in Aus.
A "Biff" or "Biffing" is slang for a fight in Aus so not a good idea to ask an Aus guy if he is looking for a Biff.
I must admit to have accidently done this on a few occasions,, yes the looks from the other punter was the only thing that made me aware I had done it ( amusing mixture of confusion / anger/ indignation)
Remember you never loose the girl only your place in line.

The times I have 'biffed', there was always at least some eye-contact (goo-goo eyes) between us. I had a gut-feel of a good matchup between us and took action before the other customer could. I think it is quite simple, the girl is taking the bird in the hand rather than returning to a 'potential'.

CG: Here's 500 baht barfine, get dressed now
Dew: Now?
CG: Now
Dew gets off the stage, goes over to a shocked Biff, says goodbye and goes to change. Biff should have never let her dance - that means "I'm not barfining you, someone else should!" I look over at ErikE, who is back sitting down and his girl is still dancing. BK and I ask what happened? She cannot go long-time. OK, pick another one, we tell him. BK has to leave, but not before he feels the ti_ts of a cute waitress. What a guy!

The analogy of an auction comes to mind....you only have so much time to make a bid. Speak up or miss out, that's life.
In the cases so far we are talking about barfine and leave situations.
However I'd be interested in opinions on the bar etiquette that should apply here:
A punter enters a bar and a girl sits with him and makes the usual small talk. After a short time she gets up and dances. Whilst dancing another punter throws her a ping pong ball (20 baht?). When she finishes her dance she goes and sits with the guy who threw the ball.
Has she done anything wrong? Would your answer be different if Guy1 had bought her a drink? Enjoy.

If I was Guy 1, I would be devastated. I mean, where would I ever find a replacement?

Without the drink, I don't see anything wrong. In the latter case, she should at least tell Guy2 to wait his turn.

do you think two hours for oil massage is too long? do you usually go for 90 mins?

I have found 90 minutes ok, but if you get someone special 2 hours is to short!!!!
Yes, if no "extra" services a small tip (100-200 Baht) goes a long way. The smile makes it worthwhile!
Some massage girls kiss but ít is not as common as the girls who work in Go Go's who 95% (IMHO) kiss! BTW, Thai girls are not usually great kissers, if you want great kissers go to the Philippines!

so no tip if you have extras is expected? up to the individual?
would this be a fair rough assessment of the holy trinity (bar girl, soap gir, oil girl) :
1. bar girl is the cheapest (dont mean that in a derogatory way) and a sure thing.
2. soap girl is a sure thing but the most expensive.
3. oil girl is somewhere in between. cost is in the middle and service might be full or not, she might get naked or not and the whole thing is a little more nudge, nudge, wink, wink?
this is just what I am picking up from reading the forum (haven't arrived in bangkok yet)
