Bombay Sapphire's about £12 a bottle (750ml) and Jameson's (my current favourite Thai bargain) is about £7.50 (750ml) in Tesco:Lotus.

I haven't noticed Gordons on sale but IMHO it isn't really worth the bother since they weakened the UK version and the US export version (usually the only option in-flight) is too sweet for me. BA don't sell Bombay Sapphire in-flight (other airlines may--check their web sites), so check the prices at the shops once you're air-side at your point of departure.

There are also much cheaper gins available for sale here, some of which are good. Fags (Marlboro Lite) are £7.40 (-ish) /200.

You don't say where you're coming from, I assumed UK. If so, almost everything is cheaper here.

The biggest saving is on wine - sometimes 2 or 3 times the price in LOS.

If you dont want it yourself, it makes a good present. The tax here is on a percentage basis (some 430%) so there will be really good savings on more expensive bottles.

I have always been in a rush to leave BKK airport so I have never looked, is there a duty free shop for when you arrive at BKK?
If so are the prices cheaper than on the plane or LHR and is the selection OK?

One thing to consider is spirits such as Gin are usually 47% proof duty free but only 40% otherwise. This applies in Europe, when at airport shop if flying within EEC 40% if flying out of the EEC 47%.

Duty free leaving Bangkok is more expensive than 7-11 (nice one King Power). Don't know about arrivals but if there is one it's probably the same price (as the one leaving, i.e. much more than supermarket prices). UK Gordon's (green bottle, b&w label) is all 37.5, if I remember correctly, and export Gordon's (with the lurid label and colourless glass bottle) is sweetened (whatever the strength).

OK--just been shopping (Tesco:Lotus has just put the price of Jamesons up to 580B!)

Export Gordons, 75cl, 40% by volume: 539B (about £7.28)
Bombay Sapphire, 75cl, 47% by volume: 835B (about £11.28)

And plenty of other local 'gin' available from about £2 a bottle...

You mean the Sang Som/MahKhong type stuff, or the white lightning with the pop top and a born-on date of 2 weeks ago?

I don't know the name of the latter stuff - ran into it at 7-11 for the first time a few weeks ago. Yee-ha! That's some thai moonshine, right there. 60 baht for a litre of grimacing goodness.

They stopped selling regular Sang Som at the airport a couple of years ago but you can still get Sang Som Black Label (or whatever the supposedly 'superior' version--with a black label--is called) in a couple of the duty free places. But it is still cheaper at 7/11...

Aaahh...Thai moonshine There's a man with a cart in Patpong around 4am-ish who sells lovely stuff. Different varieties flavoured with herbs (or something).
