I am visiting LOS again in October and I would like to take some images to show around.
I am thinking of buying a Pentax Optio S4i; rather than being ripped off in the UK can I get a good deal on spare batteries and SD cards (256 or 512) in Pantip?
I prefer to buy the camera in the UK for warranty reasons.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Once you take the camera into the Uk that you bought here forget it.
Also the price is not that chaep in pantip on things like that, you can get just a good deal on the internet if you know what you are looking for. Next if you are travelrling around there are a few good places in Singapor for chaep cams.

UKshaga is right! Hong Kong or Singapore are best for Camera's & Memory cards etc. I just got a 512Mb SD Card for less than $100.00 USD in Singapore. Also most of the better Camera brands now come with an International Warranty, so buying in Asia is no risk. from memory FarangBha has a Pentax Optio, he would be good man to ask an opinion of it!

Singapore is not cheap at all. Bought a digital camera at Pantip for AUS$600.00.
In Aus, the cheapest I could buy it for was $940.00. In Sin, duty free I could buy it for AUS$760.00.
You do have to shop around in Pantip, I went to four stores before finding the "right" price.
This was in July 2004. If you know what you are after and know the prices, I'm sure you could get it cheaper in BKK. If you find that they are dearer in LOS, buy one duty free on your return or order it online. As long as you don't want it for your holiday, then np.

Crap Isee, I agree that Duty Free at the Airport is not cheap but in town at say Sim Lim Square in Singapore the savings are very good. I have bought 3 Digital Cameras this year, 1 for myself a Casio Z4, a Nikon and a Canon. Had the option of buying in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Thailand or USA. Hong Kong was slightly cheaper on 1 of the Cameras than Singapore and a lot cheaper on the Casio. All were a lot cheaper than Pantip or Duty Free in Australia!

Never buy from a duty free place. If you want to know cheap places to buy things then please PM me its my job. But I will not give away to much. Also all asia warantees are not covered in the UK first done by sony on the mark 501 PSX sytems due to some bright spark rest of the companies followed suit. You can get away with buying gold star products from out of AUS and say you bought a LG product as the serial are all the same but my insider there tells me they are catching up. If you get a real nice person in the customer service dept from the maker of your product they can change there mind but not easy

Panthep is good for some IBM lap tops. Also good for large scale memory purchases if you have a buyer and you are on the ball with fast prcing changes. You can get ok deals on DVD movies but if you go to china town you can get for half the price as this is where most of the guys from panthep get there stuff from.
Also panthep has some real good thai food for a food court thats about it. Last thing ok if your lap top is screwed you can get it fixed for a good price, saves buying a new one. Never ever buy apple products from Panthep way to expensive.

OK, I concede that in Sin, it was a stopover on the way to LOS and I didn't leave the airport dutyfree.
You now have me wondering what the Sin price would have been at Sim Lim Square??? When's the next time you are in Sin, Oz??
I bought the Sony T-1. Could have bought the T-11 as they had that there for the same price, but Sony really screwed up when they did that one.......

You're not talking about the foodcourt on the 1st floor (2nd floor for the americans) are you??? On my two trips after eating there, I had stomach (and the associated other problem).
On my trip Nov/Dec, I intend to prove the theory and see if I get through LOS without the problems....

I think that if you eat there if you only go to thialand like once a year you wil be ill but you can say the saem if you eat on a noodle stand on the street. But I have lived here for a long time and I think I have cought it all and now I like the food in panthep. My girl says as well its realy good there. The price of ther beer is real cheap as well.
