If there is already a thread for this, please move this post.. I looked but could not find one...

Many of you may be dating "regular" girls in Bkk. I know I have for years and currently have a TGF.

I like to go out for good food and don't mind spending B1,000 for dinner for two (sometimes more) and thought I would share a couple of places with you guys...

On soi 23, walking distance to Cowboy ..

Le Delat has two locations. They serve Vietnamese food with a Thai styling .. I prefer the one on the left as you walk down  the soi, but they are both good .. nice ambiance and good food.. a bit pretentious, but should impress you TG ..

Across from Le Dalat on the right side of the street is Khanitha which is a very good  Thai restaurant ..

On soi 55 a couple of good places .. Japanese food (cheap and good) is Zen .. same building as the Sizzler (big sign) .. I love Sushi and here you can get a big plate for B200-300 ..

Ton Kreung .. further down on the left hand side of the street.. good fish, very popular with Thais.. often crowded.. a bit noisy, but still OK ..

A long way ... Bussaracum, over near Silom .. fancy place, but guaranteed to impress your tilac ..

Another fun trip with food.. boat dinners .. have been on two.. the expensive one was OK, but not as much fun as the less expensive one .. you have to go across the river to the Hotel with the Big Beer Chang sign hanging ... reasonable prices and a good tour. I went this last January and it was one of the few times I was ever chilly in Bkk .. you get a good view of the city.. Unless you really like a lot of noise, don't sit downstairs as they have a disco with a band and it is loud.. sit upstairs and hope it doesn't rain .. going during the dry season would make sense.... Travel agents should be able to help you book this type of trip?? Both of these trips were very romantic !!!

Anyone else have favorites .. nothing like a more romantic meal to get your tilac into the mood..

I always wanted to take somebody on that boat deal. Can you tell me about any dress code, lets say the less expensive one, solely coz you said it's more fun. I would think it's a package deal when you buy tickets are you getting dinner, drinks, ???? What's it all about??? "TIA"

You pay for the ride on the boat (B100 per person) then you buy food and drinks at reasonable prices.. similar to what you would pay in an indoor Thai restaurant .. wide variety of food choices again just like a restaurant .. I think the total evening cost me about B800 .

some of the fancier deals have a set price which includes food and some drinks, but not unlimited ..you can pay up to B1,000 each for this trip and although there didn't seem to be a dress code, most were dressed well (not suits tho)

Dress code is pretty relaxed on the cheaper boats.. as I mentioned mostly Thai families  .. I wore my Khaki pants/short sleeve nice shirt that I wear all the time.. you could get by in shorts, but frankly, most farangs look pretty tacky in them and I assume you want to impress the TG you are with ..

Again thanks for the info. Dress code/no code, great. I dont go out in shorts, so that wont be a problem. A comfortable T- shirt or Tank Top is right up my alley, say with Dark jeans. If your back to this thread let me know if attire like that is ok. Where would I catch this boat or better yet most hotels have a tour counter. Would they have something on a dinner cruise inexpencsive or expencsive either one?

You  could try Pomodoro on Sukhumvit Road, between Soi 3 and Soi 5.

If you have lots of cash to spare, then try Vertigo on the 61st-62nd floor of Banyan Tree Bangkok. Reservations are recommended. Tel: 0-2679-1200 Bring along lots of money or a credit card. The prices are expensive. My recent dinner for 2, 1 starter, 3 main dishes, 1 bottle of Australian Red wine set be back 8,300 B. The view from the top is really great though. You get to see the whole of Bangkok city from there.

Updated with names of restaurants... seubeu

Hey, BK, I think that place is Pomodoro.   There is also one across the street from the Novotel Lotus on Soi 33, and now I think there is a different Italian place right next door.  Must be the new craze.  There is also a nice upscale Thai place right across Soi 33 from these two, I think it's focus is seafood.

Personally for Italian I prefer Florentino Ristorante, just up Soi 23 from Soi Cowboy (as you head away from Sukhumvit it is on the right).  Just be careful as not all upcountry ladies are adventurous about different cuisines.

For Indian, sliderman took us to Rang Mahal on the top floor of the Rembrandt Hotel on Soi 18 which had nice food and fantastic views plus live music.  Even though the ladies accompanying us were dressed up there was at least one disparaging remark from a woman with her husband as we took the lift down.  Too bad for her!

For Japanese there is one really nice place in the Emporium Center, Aoi.  Very good but very pricey.  Only use to impress or if you want to give yourself a treat.

Le Chevalier on Soi 3 has a nice little fixed price lunch if you crave continental cuisine.  I think this place is owned by the guy who owns the Crown Group GoGos, so maybe you'll recognize the serving staff.

There is a more upscale French place that I had a nice, albeit expensive, dinner once, I think just across the main road from Central Ploenchit.  Word to the wise, good wine can be quite dear in BKK.

Somewhere in between those two is Les Bordeaux, near Sukhumvit Soi 39.  Had a nice meal there once, also not cheap.

Vientiane Kitchen is a fun place to have Laos food in BKK.  Take your Isaarn girl there if she is feeling homesick.  The dining is al fresco and they have live music and dancers, more so on the weekends.  Sukhumvit Soi 36.

Note, I was able to hunt down the names of some of these places via this link for the Bangkok Post restaurant guide.  There were many other interesting places listed there, plus a couple that I could recommend that you avoid.  Happy hunting!

Boat cruises ..

I am sure that the travel agencies have these available.. Be a little careful about price.. nothing wrong with paying b100 for the service, but don't let them talk you into a very expensive cruise??

Many of the five star hotels have them .. Oriental, Shangrila both have them .. fancier and dress might be a little more constrained...

the one I went on had something to do with the River Hotel.. it had this huge sign for Chang Beer hanging on the river side.  if you look at a map, it is north, quite a bit past Wat Arun .. then you go all the way down to the Single Suspension Bridge .. they have a recording telling about the building of this bridge .. in Thai and again in English (I find this sort of stuff interesting) ..

One of the fascinating things is watching where buildings are in relationship to the boat.. One large building appears to be way over on your left.. then you make a bunch of turns and there it is on your right .. again, I find this sort of thing interesting.. esp, while holding my tilacs hands and having a Beer Singha

Sup':
There are three restaurants in the Dusit Hotel. Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants. All are very good, but very pricy.

The Japanese restaurant put us back for about $1,200 for 13 people. But the sushi is great and very fresh and we had about 10 bottles of beer!!

Curious if anyone has opinions on the best Tom Yam Goong in town?     So far my favorite is the Mango Tree over in Pat Pong.    My favorite meal in Bangkok is several bowls of Tom Yam and fried rice.
