Spent the past few days seeking the very best Reuben sandwich in Bangkok

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuben_sandwich

My findings:

The Huntsman, Landmark Hotel. Piles of tasty corned beef, toasted dark bread, thousand island dressing, lots of sauerkraut, but cheese a disappointment. Kudos to Griffin for the suggestion. 340 baht for the full one, served with fries.

Londonerer Pub, Soi 33. Real swiss cheese, but substitute lettuce for sauerkraut. Almost sacrilegious! Served with fries and creamy cole slaw for 360 baht, goes well with a pint each of house pilsner and house biter.

On 8 Cafe. Only 140 baht, but with grilled onions instead of kraut, and served on a sesame seed bun How can they call this a reuben?

Nothing to match Canters Deli on Fairfax in North Hollywood, but hey TIT. Huntsman the best I've found in Bangers.

The Reuben at The Landmark's coffeeshop at the Ground Floor is 250 baht... LOL That they are charging 90 baht more downstairs... probably the same thing.

Note that you can also get it with Curly Fries which IMHO are tastier.

Also eat fast... it gets soggy very fast.

IC.. well, at the Coffee Shop there is no option. There's only the 250 baht one.

As there are two large pieces, I'll expect that's also a full one.

TF, I like a good Rueben as much as the next guy but for 340 baht I can get one at home that is too big to eat and perfect quality. As I only spend a few days per month in Thailand I guess I will save my Rueben cravings for home.

Ever have a Reuben at the Stage Diner in NYC - you can eat off it for days - great liverwurst as well.

Mr Alan
I know this is a little off-subject, but it reminds me when I tried to buy some corned beef at the Emporium Grocery store (they have a lot of imported foods) about 10 years ago.

I was a LOS newbie at the time, and although I certainly understood that LOS uses the metric system (unlike in the US where deli meat is sold by the pound), I asked for 1/4 kilo of the corned beef. The girls at the deli counter looked at me like I was crazy since they had no idea what I wanted. After much discussion among them, they finally just packaged up 100 grams and handed it to me.

I wonder if people in countries where the metric system is used exclusively even understand fractions?

I love Corned Beef! have all my life, though being an Aussie I have never tasted a Reuben nor heard of it before as I live in the Bush, I must try one at the Landmark next trip.
thanks Mr Alan

When I come over in Nov I'll bring a couple of Kilos of cooked corn beef with some bay leafs & cream sauce and give it to Ring The Bells and his cook can serve it up at Toxic on a RT Friday Night and it's Free.

How does Stage Deli compare to Carnegie or Katz?
