You may think I'm crazy but I really missed O'Brian's. NanaBurger may be convenient but quality is even worse than those 3 AM burgers at O'Brian's, never mind the roaches crawling across the floor.

Fortunately, there's a new 24-hour option in lower Sukhumvit, the V-8 Diner, located in back of the strip mall adjacent Times Square, near Sunrise Taco.

Decorated as classic Americana, complete with murals of muscle cars and replicas of vintage Wurlitzer jute boxes, coke machines, and pre-transistor radios. I used to own a V8 Ford Mustang convertible, so I must confess the motif brought a tear to my eye. I first noticed this new restaurant last week, stopped this morning to sample the breakfast.

The menu is quite extensive, also includes thai food for your long time companion. My waitress was very attentive, perhaps to excess, but there are four on duty and I'm the only customer. It's 10:30 AM, I suppose many punters aren't finished throwing-up yet.

I opt for the Turbo V8 breakfast for 240 baht: 2 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, hash browns, 2 pancakes with syrup, orange juice, and that great American tradition, a bottomless cup of coffee.

Juice and coffee are served immediately. Coffee is domestic, strong but not rich, some cream takes the edge off. Eggs arrive sunny-side up, not over-easy as ordered. Hash browns are the frozen patties, left in the deep fryer too long. Pancakes are fluffy, much better than at Gullivers.

Be forewarned that a 10 % service charge is added, so not exactly inexpensive, but I'd like to try the Reuben sandwich sometime, and will certainly be back for more breakfasts to help soak up the alcohol.

Check it out for a taste of nostalgia, before the roaches move in. Where were you in 62?
