Sorry for the long post!

How common is it to have restaurant menus in both Thai and English? During my last stay (also being my first stay) I ran into some trouble ordering food at some restaurants.
The first place I went to the waitress handed me a menu in Thai. After thinking about winging it and just selecting one of the choices and hoping it would be something I liked I decided to ask the waitress if she could translate it for me or if she had a menu written in English. To my embarressment, she smiled and turned the menu over to show the English translation. Woot!

At the second restaurant the Thai menu handed to me didn't have any English translation on it ANYWHERE (I made sure I checked everywhere). I asked the waitress if she had one in English. After apologising she raced away and produced an English one from behind a counter.

From then on the following 5-6 places I went to didn't have anything in English (but the chef at one happily translated his menu into broken English for me - for which I was grateful).

Since then I found myself eating breakfast at my Hotel and snacking throughout the day from the street venders (therefore avoiding the need to have lunch) and eating alternate dinners at the same two English menu restaurants.

On my next trip I'd like vary most of my meals by eating at different Thai restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner - saving the street vendors for late night snacks, etc...

Does anyone know of a list of Thai restaurants that provide menus in English (or have English speaking Chefs  ;) . I'm happy to eat at the "Ma and Pa" type restaurants as much as any larger touristy oriented places.
To give you an idea - I have bugeted 1500 Baht a day for meals (I have bugeted for me and a BG for every meal, everyday but God knows I won't have a BG EVERY day - but better to be optimistic)

Do any of the non-Thai speaking Bros have a little list they have created of places they have no problems ordering at?

I'd like to keep it strictly to Thai food and anywhere along (or very close to) the lower end of Sukhumvit - between Soi 1 and Soi 33.

Cheers in advanced!!

Don't be silly RTB.
He's from Australia LOL

Mr. Nobody, I doubt very much if you will find a specific list here to guide you to Restaurants with English menue's, but I respectfully suggest that you utilize the search engine for recommended restaurants on this forum as this is an English language forum.

Maybe that is a quest for you when you next visit LOS.

It seems to me that you will have plenty of time on your hands given the following quote: "God knows I won't have a BG EVERY day".
Are you ill???555555

Have a nice day...
Or should one say, Fair Dinkums Cobber!

Triyclops, thanks for your response. I had already checked the Forums here to try and compose a list myself but could only find 2 places that catered to English speaking patrons. I also used Google to see if there was any sort of restaurant review websites that may have mentioned anything about English menus and couldn't find anything (except one which commented on a one place that had a funny chef who could speak very good English).

Has ANYONE had trouble ordering food at Thai restaurants/cafes?

Mr Alan
I have been to many Thai restaurants and never saw a menu that did not have some English on it.  1500 baht per day is rather high even if you eat at 5-star hotel restaurants. Many of the better hotels along Sukhimvit have good Thai restaurants. Also there are some good ones in the Emporium including the Thai Food Court.
