Better have some beers to get it down......
Suggest Thai food when in Thailand. The items you suggest can be substituted by many other tasty dishes. There are so many restaurants around Sukhumvit or in the rest of Bangkok for that sake. Can't imagine going to an Indian restaurant in Bangkok, guessing that you are spending a limited amount of time here before you go back to Curry land. (England)

Don't listen to the party poopers UK Shaga.....
It's in our blood, we know it, they know it, only poor old manuel doesn't get it. He is right about Thai food though, more than the limited menu you seem to be eating.
Where are you going?
I would recommend Rang Mahal on top of the Rembrandt Hotel.
Also Akhbars on soi 3.
I do not recommend the Novotel on soi 33, just purely as this is an International buffet with Indian included, though it is very good.
I didn't enjoy Mrs Balbir's when I went or Pasands (I think) at the mouth of soi 12.
Of course Malaysian Aunties on soi 8 is good, and nearby is the Maharaja which did an excellent vindaloo last time I was in there and gets my recommendation, though it was being refurbished when I was last there, should be open again now.
I must admit I find it too heavy in Bangkok, though that many be affected by the amount of beer I try to shove down on top of it.

OK, if you really want to go..... agree with Yurune. Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt is in my opinion your best choice.

Know how you feel, UK Shaga - I'm not as addicted to Indian as I was in England, but still can't cope without at least a monthly fix.
Indian here is rather different from back home (which is really Anglo-Indian) - but still very tasty. Different, not worse, imho. Quite a lot of Indian curry houses on Suk and sois off - I quite like one just along Suk from Asoke Corner, but you can take pot luck as at home and rarely come unstuck.
You're right not to take a BG along. Few Thais can stomach Indian food unless they've lived abroad - Arramsey's probably right that it's the ghee (clarified butter) which is objectionable. If you have wilder plans for later on, I'd suggest a post-prandial shower and a fairly heavy dose of Listerine.

Oh yeah -- had some Indian while I was there last time, and the place is great. (Though had a weird incident with a Muslim couple while there)
Definitely a recommendation.
