At the beginning of Soi 3/1 there's a all night place with several vendors selling Pat Thai to Noodles.

Prices a little higher than somewhere else (Pat Thai / Pork Leg Stew at 50 baht). But on average good food.

Some hardcore LBs hang around in the front. A little intimidating if you're a bit uncomfortable with them.

You can always walk into Soi 3/1 and use the other entrance.

Again, not as the OP asked for, but then again take it as it comes, Jack.

Original poster specifically said not Sukhumvit. So I apologize for posting here. Could not find a better thread.

I used to love to go to Sunrise Tacos (between soi 12 and 14) late nights. They are open 24/7.

Unfortunately they just changed their pricing. The worst bit is that now they add 7 % VAT PLUS 10 % Service Charge.

My meal was 40 % more expensive than it would have been a couple of weeks ago!!!

It's a business, I'm sure they'll still do okay, but I won't go there anymore. The food is now overpriced, IMHO.

Sunrise started off as a great concept. I met the owner and he seems like a great guy. I too have been an owner of restaurants. Speaking from several perspectives, you can't open up so many locations at the same time and expect success. I thought the food was overpriced from the go, they have way too many employees sitting around, I have seen them sampling to food, not using serve safe mthods of handling food etc..
The quality of the food is always different. A taco changes content from day to day and person to person, there is no continuity of product. Hope the guy sgets back to basics and becomes hands on again. It was great when it opened.

If you fancy Khao Mun Kai (chicken rice), there's a shop near the corner of Petchburi Road and Ratchadamri Road.

For fried duck's beak and other Thai food, there is a place at Klong Tan, between Petchburi Road and Rama 9. If I recall correctly, it's just before Biwa massage (if you're coming in from Petchburi Road).

If I was worried about "using serve safe mthods of handling food" (as you put it), I think I'd best not eat in most places in Thailand.

Nothing wrong with opening many branches, if one can pull it off. The staff at Sunrise Tacos has always been pretty good. Definitely way better than what I'm used to from other places in the vicinity.

Regarding the food, I have also never had anything to complain about.

But as I said: a 40 % price increase does not a happy regular customer make. I'm sure they'll still do okay, there seem to always be plenty of customers there. Tourists won't mind the new pricing, I think, so the owner wins. Sunrise Tacos will survive with or without the few hundred Baht I spent there every month.

That's not just late night eats but widely considered to be the best chicken rice in Thailand.

J Uon at Sena Market is another place to grab some good chicken rice late at night. They have some good noodles, namely green egg noodle in a street food setting. It's near Phahon Yothin, locals all know about it. Watch out for the rats running around...

Sunrise,
I agree with the earlier comment. I was just giving my 2 cents on the difference since they opened. I don't think I was clear on how things have changed. The place still has good food, and certainly most other places are worse as far as handling food. Operations by a true American should dictate a higher expectation, though. I hope they make it.
