I've only eaten there twice, and had them deliver as many times, but I'm impressed with Duilio's restaurant on soi 49. From what I can gather they've got their act together. They're another one of those quiet, out-of-the-way dining gems in town. Their outdoor bar and dining area oozes romance, and the inside dining room is nice.

Duilio's is also one of the food vendors at the Central Department Store international food court at Chitlom BTS stop. I think the food court is on the 7th floor. Obviously, the menu is limited compared to their other restaurant on soi 49.
Great place to go if you want Western food and your TG wants Thai food.

Does it mean they change owner ? This Pasta/Pizza joint in FoodLoft was initially opened by Gianni and I thought it was still him......

Yup! Central's food court is a great place to people watch, too. But the more I eat there the more I'm convinced of the mediocrity of the food on hand.
The views sorta make it more palatable, or so it would seem...

I agree with Skip's high opinion of Duilio's in Suk 49.
I ate there last week.
Just walking in you get a sense this is a special place.
Restaurant is large, open, quiet, orderly, clean, comfortable, relaxed.
And does not have the "hard edge" decor common to many continental restaurants.
Started with the contadina salad, which I'd never had before.
Warm potatoes, fresh green beans, fresh green peas, carrots, tomatoes - in herbed oilve oil.
Warm and delicious - I highly recommend the contadina salad.
And a huge portion: one bowl is plenty for two people.
Served with warm, home-made, bread.
Decided on the pizza with sausage and spinach.
Brick oven - done just right - with crispy edges.
Delicious sausage.
And the mozzarella had a rich, buttery, flavor.
It could not have been ordinary, commercial-grade, pizza cheese.
I was impressed.
Dessert was, what else?, tiramisu.
Fresh, creamy, moist.
Among the best tiramisu I've ever had.
Again, portion size was very generous - one serving was plenty for two people.
I've been to Basilico, PanPan and Govinda; each 2 or more times.
Duilio's is certainly in a higher class for quality of food and atmosphere.
I'll be going back often.
Duilio's is in Sukhumviti 49, about 100 metres North of Sukhumvit road.
Closest skytrain is Tonglor, but it's a loooong walk from there.
If going by skytrain, I'd take a taxi from Tonglor into soi 49.
I also ordered a Duilio's pizza delivered by Food-by-Phone.
And, according to Duilio's web site (URL in Skip's post above), they have their own delivery service, too.
Well - must be obvious - I've found my favorite for Italian food here.

While it does not make my "top five" in the Italian category, Duilio's is well above average and does offer outstanding value for money. The menu features an extensive range of pizzas and pastas (which are excellent). The bread might be the best Italian restaurant bread in Bangkok.
The decor is indeed homey and relaxed, and very TG friendly. The paper napkins and clunky stemware are below standard, but presumably this helps to keep costs down and since there is no corkage charge it's a fair tradeoff. The owner has eclectic taste in music... you will often hear old 70s rock on the sound system.
There is also valet parking, which is smart given the location and a service that many Bangkok restaurants could benefit by offering. Note that it's considerably further down 49 than the 100 yards mentioned above... don't plan to walk it.
There is a zone of low restaurant density between 39 and 55, and Duilio's is a very useful venue in this area. Open for both lunch and dinner daily.

i dont like Dulio's pizza... but I can say their tiramisu is some of the BEST in town... Also I love there tortellini soup.... its expensive (like 250bht) for a bowl, but God, it's GOOD...
their calzone is great too... I order it minus the spinache...

My mistake. You are correct that the Italian food at Central Department Store (Chitlom) food loft is Gianni, and not Dulio's as I stated.
