suk soi 23, new place, giusto, very nice great food and lovely wine bar at the back nice staff too and pretty good price though I know some of u begrudge paying more than $10 for a meal hahahaha
last night 10 of us, 5 btl wine and starter main desert etc total bill 17,000tb I thought that was excellent

Zonotti is too much of a cafeteria atmosphere to reach the top... the "frantic bistro/trattoria" thing can work in some markets where the staff are like well-oiled machines, but it's much tougher in Thailand. Zonotti's does not pull it off... too much about cosmetics and not enough of the real thing.

Giusto is not exactly new, but it is good and worth the price usually. Their appetizers are excellent as are the desserts and they have a good wine list.
A new place that some might want to try. Called Pasta Pagoda and it is located ground floor of Siam Paragon. Chef is from Switzerland and has a good reputation. Prices are reasonable and food seems good. Seats 35. Interesting part is that it is located together with a wine merchant and a cuban cigar place. You can choose ur wine at the merchant...and there is some good shit there (peng maak) and finish with a cigar in the cigar place. Kind of neat. Good looking servers too!
I am going to admit a small interest. I know the owner and the manager is a good friend of mine. But I have no financial interest.
Open 10-10, 7 days a week. I suspect it is going to be popular with Hiso and business expat.

I went to To Die Four on Friday night and it is not all that. With a city of hundreds of Italian places average just does not cut it. The wine list was terrible the menus actually worn out with specials printed on Xerox copy paper that needed the toner changed. One fish dish was way over salted and service Thai average. The place seems to emphasis design of the place over substance of the food. Now worth the trip down Thong Lo. I would give it a grafe of C
I think in Thailand you cannot pick one great Italian place, but definitely a top five Mine are:
1. Giusto
2. Gianni's
Number's 3,4 & 5 vet to be determine. I still have a lot of smapling to do.
Now I also tried out 87 in the Conrad Hotel on Sunday evening. From the descriptions in some of the guides it would seem that their once culinary talent Chef Nicolas Coccia has left or has lost his touch as the dishes were OK, but not inspiring. The wine list is all Itailians and the atmosphere is quite cozy and romantic. Not a good venue for a business dinner. It seats very little so reservations are recommended as they were full on Friday night.
It is connected to club 87 of which the band starts playing around 9:00. So if you want to take a TG to a nice romantic dinner then slid into the club to get her good and drunk. This place will work. I would give it a grade of "B', but still not making the top five.

The density of Italian venues along Suk 31 has dropped recently, with the departure of Toscana. No big loss, though I personally felt it had more to offer than its neighbor Bella Napoli. And Vito's gave up on trying to do lunch... a hopeless endeavor given the parking situation.
Further down the Suk corridor off Tonglor, Modapesce has thrown in the towel and has reopened under a new name... certainly not a surprise, since Modapesce was hopelessly overdone and overpriced.

Tried Giusto tonight and it was OK. Certainly not EXTREMELY GOOD. In fact, it was an ok Italian place with very stylish decor. A little pretentious if you ask me (It is an Italian place not a Michelin 3 star place). I had the Black spaghetti with Phuket Lobster and the pasta was a little over cooked and the Lobster did not taste that fresh, way overpriced at 1250 baht (trust me, what you get is nothing like the picture they have at the website, the lobster meat is about 1/5 of what they show in the picture) I had to order another pasta dish so as not to go hungry. The male waiter was a jerk with a do not bother me attitude (unless you want to order a $100 wine) The waitress was pretty nice and did not have an attitude at least.

12,000 BHT for meal for 2,, there is REALLY something wrong with you people!!! I just hope it is not a communicable desease,, but suspect merely a mental problem.
That 12,000BHT could have paid for a very nice apartment for a weeks stay,, 3 S/T's and a L/T.
OR a sensational Indian meal at a top class restaurant followed by seafood dinners for the next 3 nights.
But as they say each to their own.

Just some prick who likes to show his wealth around at the expense of the little people. His other post scoffed at people paying $10 for a meal. I've had great main course meal in Italian for less than $10 in BKK.
