Had the opportunity for a direct comparison of US beef and Aussie beef today. Local Butcher had US New york cut and also Aussie Sirloin.
Some cut, different name.
I was in the mood for some " surf-n-Turf" so visted the local seafood shop,, found some good Aussie PRAWNS and some US shrimp,,, wanting to keep it fair I used equal prawn weight per steak, only 2 Aussie prawns, but used 10 US shrimp ( they are called SHRIMP for a reason).
The steaks where cooked in a Griddle pan ( made in Europe so as not to alter results), the pan was sprayed with Canola oil ( Aus oll as I'm going to feed genetically altered food to my family) and high pre-heated.
Initial observations of the beef saw,, the American beef perhaps had a slightly yellower fat and the Aussie beef a richer / redder colour.
Initial observations of the prawns saw US prawns of low, very low quality.
A home - made Hollondaise sauce was added to both sets of steaks.
Blind testing amongst a group of 4 saw little difference on scores of tenderness / flavour. The Aus beef won on both catagories by a mere single point.
Before you SCREAM about the inferoir US prawns,, yes, two of the Aus steaks had those little buggers on them so as not to twist results.
So Aussie beef won,, but JUST, a mere 1 point.
Cost, Aussie sirloin $12.99 per kilo US New-york cut $42.99.
I think we have a winner.

It is amazing to watch this forum and subjects. The subject is "The Best Steaks In Bangkok" and then please stick to it, no attacks on other member of the forum, no comparison about US beef versus Australian beet and shrimps/prawns in Australia. I do not understand why it is so difficult reading what the subject is all about.

dfp,, not that hard to expalin,, US beef and Aus beef BOTH available in Thailand ( they quickly forget BSE ).
As I live in Aus it is somewhat expensive if I wanted to compare the two in thailand, unless you would like to pay my air-fares.

I find it hard to believe that you got US Shrimp in Aus or SEA. the US is a big importer of shrimp, and Thailand is a big exporter. It is hard to find US Shrimp in the US unless you live near the Gulf Coast of the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US beef you sampled in Aus was also frozen. If it was not frozen, that would help explain why it cost so much more, due to the expidited transportation costs.

Speaking of frozen, it is good to have you back Mel.
I never seen anyone proclaim anything about USA shrimp as the USA is the biggest importer of shrinp in the world. A lot of the shrimp comes from Thailand,probably from the people stealing shrimp out of Mel's Thai shrimp farm. Thanks Mel!
I would assume Aussie shrimp beats USA shrimps as we probably over fished the Gulf Coast. I do not think shrimp farming is done in the USA since they are still importing a shit load.

ThaidUp, Australia does NOT have Shrimp, we however do have some of the best quality Prawns in the world. Sadly the majority of the largest and best quality Prawns are exported.
Shrimp out of Mels Shrimp farm???? Don't tell me you classify Cherabin as shrimp also?? WTF.
expat,,,yep we definately have the best Kanga's,,,,I'm waiting for them to be re-named by our American brothers,,,perhaps jumparoos ??
RTB, You d'man,vegemite toasted steak, cheese sanga,,with beetroot and tromato sauce,,no friggen pickles or ketchafark.
