And as far as your comment on the Doc, he whined to the moderator and my post of quoting him was removed, as he said I broke the forum rules by doing that. (in addition another one that sparked the mis content). http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=23&topic=875&start=0
Of course most of the banter on this was removed because the Dr and Dafty teamed up and cried to dad.

Lies and more lies.... I've never contacted BK about this issue. BK moderated a part of that thread by himself.

Furthermore, Jingjo and myself have ourselves on reciprocal ignore, so he shouldn't make comments 'behind my back' at all.

BK has encouraged me to complain about those flaming me, but I've told him that I will only do that in extreme cases. The last communication with BK was about Lowry (before you posted the inappropriate content).

In a situation like this, where the so-called discount partner refuses to honour the discount, isn't it logical for the affected customer to hold the advertiser (in this case, the hotel) responsible for the lapse ?
===================================================
Exactly the point of my comment.... finally someone who's a little more intelligent than those flowing along with every stream.

===================================================
I guess the Doc expects everyone to do what he does when he doesn't like someone or they respond to his less than positive comments.
===================================================
You guess... yes, just that. Apart from spreading lies around you pretty much have it wrong again.

I just gave my honest opinion without ever flaming Jojje (I have nothing against him, even met him). But he found it necessary to become pissed of just because I didn't agree and then had to make comments about the tours.

If I give my opinion I expect nobody to agree with me or expect to do what I do.

Nor do I think I am the known-all.... but if I was it wouldn't be strange after staying here for over 6,000 days in the last 25 years, speaking Thai fluently and emerged in every layer of Thai society.

It's so silly, from the restaurant's point of view, a 10% discount is such a paltry sum, which would have gone a long way to promote some goodwill. And by not honoring that promotion they have lost possibly 5 or more potential customers which could have made them easily another 5,000 B (assuming an average of 1,000B per customer) in revenue. Total shortsightedness on their part.

Which is what makes me wonder whether the hotel really had a proper pact with the restaurant. If we consider that the restaurant, being very popular and always overflowing with customers, didn't give a damn about its customers who were seeking the 10% discount, then it should lead us to ask why it would enter a pact with the hotel in the first place and risk spoiling its reputation. Some posters have suggested that it is just a con game or gimmick to attract customers first and then back out of the discount. Doesn't jell, if you also consider that other posters have mentioned that they have enjoyed discounts at other times.

It is more likely that the restaurant and the hotel didn't have a clear deal on the discount or, if they did, it had already gone sour, and therefore the restaurant didn't feel obliged to honour the claim made by the hotel.

Jojje did mention that the hotel manager replied that several guests had had problems with that restaurant. If that was the case why was the hotel continuing to mislead its guests ?

After 33 years in Thailand, Jojje still doesn't believe in TIT.

Indeed, if the hotel would really took care of its customers it would have investigate the mishap after getting multiple complains.

But as it appears, they don't really care. Perhaps they use it to lure customers to their hotel instead of the Japanese restaurant luring customers with false pretenses...

Previously they accepted the keycard, but now require a statement from the hotel front desk. This looks like me that fraud was involved (hotel guests borrowing their keycard to friends?).

We don't really know the real reason for this, but one possibility could be, that the hotel has increased their rent drastically or something to that effect.

Hey, as long as one is still getting customers, one should be glad to give away the 10% discount. Then again, like you said, TiT.

We all know cases where, with the current downfall, bars are raising their prices (or maintaining them) to receive a reasonable turnover against steady overheads.

Perhaps also restaurants would like to have the full amount coming from those fewer customers and provide only discounts to those on arrangement.

LY, according to a quote from Jojje:
'What do I know - just a measly 33 years experience in the country - of course I can add nothing useful!'

Well doc - at the risk of giving you yet "another 15 kbs of fame" - and no doubt also giving you some more swell (below)...

You left yourself wide open re: your comment...

"BTW I ate yesterday at Uzuki and got 15% discount just by showing my business card."
Posted on: 1:31 am on Mar. 26, 2009

I presume you are referring to your "BKK Night Tours" business card?

That doesn't count mate! Flashing your business card would be the best way of gratuitously soliciting cash - (in the form of a 15% discount) wouldn't it?

AKA - As a p4p gal flashes her tits to solicit the same thing....

Regarding the topic of this thread - I have been known to strike out the "amount payable" on a bill on occasions where a blatant rip off is evident - and write in the reduced (correct) amount and pay that - and then promptly walk out! The staff usually get the point...
