Guys,
Bayoke is indeed the tallest building in LOS & the top bar is at 83th floor, restaurents 78/79 & above that the observatory. It's all pretty amazing just like the view from the various hotelrooms , but I must admit views from some of the mentioned river 'towers' could be nice too, but then again perhaps better suited for corporate accounts!

AMAZING GOOGLE
pEACE

p.s. SEA's tallest building are bound to be Twin towers KL, while EA's tallest probably is in shanghai, but taipei are constructing like hell too so not sure these days?

p.p.s. me thinks RCK Tower was never completed which is hardly a surprice in TIT!

Beer Barone
I know it has been discussed, but is there anywhere that anyone knows of where if one paid enough they could get a decent bottle of wine (cabernet-chilean, australian, californian; or anything italian)?

The best and cheapest solution is probably to bring some bottles of your favorite Italian wine with you, and then take it to the restaurant of your choice...

That's possible with some Thai restaurants, right?

The "Seafood Market Restaurant"on Soi 24, Suk, not only has great seafood but it also a considerable range of wines from around the world.
Prices are good and less than the up market hotel restaurants and the food argueably better.

My guess is 200-300 different bottles (red & white)
For Bkk its a good selection.

all better restaurants will accept a brought in bottle for cover charges ranging from thb 200-1,000 depending on the venue.
most good, expensive restaurants are aware of the problems associated with wine in thailand so are happy to accept brought-ins!
if you want a good wine list and selection for a reasonable price there is the indigo in convent road just of silom! it is a french, fusion style restaurant located in a very beautiful, old thai style villa in an off soi!
very nice sitting in the garden or inside! good selection of mainly french wines at reasonable prices. the owner does only have vintages and crus, at prices nearly comparable to europe! (about thb 2,000-3,000 for a bottle of most grand cru classés!!!) plus the owner stores them well!
another palce is the café siam, a thai and french restaurant also run by french guys. located in an off soi of rama 4. very romantic and quiet restaurant. popular with some thai stars who do not want to be seen by the crowds!
wines at the same price range as above. by the way there is actually one french chateau which is owned by a thai family, forgot the name, but very popular in this restaurant!

If your looking "to impress" them rather than the actual quality of the food then Id suggest the big sea food place on Soi 24 or Ohm Thong (not sure about the spelling)on 23. Both seem to be well known among the TGs and they do seem to be "excited" about going there. Have to say though the food at cheaper sea food establishments is actually much better than this over-priced and over-rated establishment. Its a good "experience" tho and worth at least one visit.

Best reaction Ive ever had to a sugegstion tho' was the good old Brit classic - "Hard Rock" - they seem to thinks thats "well special" for some reason.

the best food I ever tested on my last trip was upstairs resturant over foodland on soi 5. Great food for very reasonable price. Foodland is also good if you are in hurry to grab some bite and don't want a wast too much time on food

I'll second Craigoz on the soi 24 call, that place is AWESOME!!!!

Their moto is "If it swims we have it" and man do they ever. But what's more important they really, really know how to cook it up right. I toured the wine selection and was impressed by its breadth too.

sandiegon,

I was in foodland many times when I was in Bkk. Never noticed the upstairs resturant. Given your strong recommendation I will make a point of trying it out.
