I am in disagreement about the crepes. the guy at bigouden is a wanker and IMO he deserves to loose all his money. crepes & co in soi 18 is doing well and a couple of sreetvendors selling crepes are doing so.

the arabs do a fantastic chicken, I have to agree with NM. why would you want turkey if you can have roast chicken. the price of a dressed chicken is 35 baht.

rtb.

"the arabs do a fantastic chicken,"

I thought there was a crack-down on shows like this.

"the price of a dressed chicken is 35 baht."

   And the price nude?

Thanks for giving me a chance to explain. In reality are prices are not the same even though, most of our costs are more expensive except for labor.

237 Baht ($5.79) in the USA for a Red Wine Vinaigrette Club. We charge 189 baht but thats after 7% VAT for the government. Hence the true price is 176 Baht. 25 % Less than the States

229 Baht ( $5.59) for a Tuna.  We charge 158 Baht  31% less

229 Baht ( $5.59) for Ham. We charge 139 Baht.  39% less

229 Baht($5.59) for Turkey We charge 185 Baht.  19% less

90 Baht ($2.20) for Fresh Value Meal. We charge 46.5 Baht.  48% less and a bigger bag of chips. 25 grams more!

In the States a “regular operator will have food costs of 31 % of their gross. Our food costs are 44% for foot longs! Part of the reason is the high standards that Subway  requires for their meats. Only  a couple meat producers qualified to make bids, then a number of producers cannot be bother with all the paperwork for volume of just 2 stores and in the States they have buying power of over 15,000 stores. Top it off, we need to keep our prices low to compete with the local market.

Our electricity is more expensive here than the States.

We paid $3,512 for rent ( 144,000 Baht) (if we did not co-share with Coffee World it would be $7,024 per month) If you take in account 500,000 Baht for key money the monthly rate is $4,065 per month. Would think rent is cheaper in the States even in Miami Beach!

Labor costs are 102,500 per month ( $2,500) We have 10 employees. In the States for the same volume per day they have 4  employees at $6.50 per hour. Which is $6,045 per month or 247,800 Baht. I saw several locations in Florida last week, had only one employee per shift and a part timer for peak hours, so this can be around $4,000.  Labor is the only part that it’s cheaper.  However our labor costs are higher than say KFC in BKK at 23 baht per hour as our servers need English skills. Starbucks pays 28 baht per hour. The million questions the sandwich artist needs to ask requires a higher salary for top people. We pay 33 baht for servers, 51 baht per hour for asst. mgrs and the Managing Director my wife Khun Nui is making 66 baht per hour. Working 17 hours, 7 days a week. With two master degrees and working before as a V.P for the largest firm in Thailand at over 100,000 Baht per month, think she is overpaid at 35,000 baht per month?

Start-up costs of shipping and the 30% import taxes. Which the States would not have.

All and all, we are making a few coins and were happy with the location.

Good onya Sunny for an good honest reply and detailed explanation. I often cannot believe the rents asked here for a smelly polluted hard to do biz in city. But like someone famous on this board once said, just recently, 'take away the dirt and you get virtual reality' and who wants to live in a remake of America.

Reminds me of all the New Yorkers complaining how they just can'y get a good bagel in CA. Well then just go back home to NY

Well NY's wouldn't complain if the freaking Californians would stop trying to peddle their bagels as real NY bagels. I can't tell you how many LA natives have told me that LA has great bagels or NY style bagels.
What adds injury to insult is when you ask for a smear of cream cheese on your toasted bagel they hand you a squeeze pack of Philadelphia brand cream cheese!

BTW- what's the deal with freaking sour dough or avacado being a part of every damn sandwich? You can't get a freaking good deli sandwhich in LA! The only thing that kicks ass are the hamburgers. Damn good burgers. hamburger!

SilentBob, Just what is your beef with Subway, did they slice your Pepperoni wrong or what?

It is a hard road to travel to export American food into Thailand, Wendy's franchises are all closed and Burger King is greatly reduced. So I say give the guy a break for putting his money on a risky venture.

Hey...I'm not knocking anyone for investing in a Subway. It's just that as a red-blooded sammich loving Yankee, to me, and a lot of other people, there are places that have better subs.
I will give Subway this though. They do have good breakfast sandwiches. But given other options, I pass on their subs.  So see?? I'm not TOTALLY knocking the joint, and I never knocked the dude for investing.
So there...

I don't know why people are critical of your opinion on Subway. Food and restaurants are constantly criticized on a daily basis.

Subway is a good "business" venture  and it is a proven money making franchise. I would open one myself if they were not maxed out here.

I agree with you though that the products IMO suck. I grew up in an East coast area surrounded by deli's. Sandwiches were a daily meal in my life. I taste a Subway and I think I'm eating bread flavored air. There is no freaking meat on those subs and the bread is soft gooey crap that can hold together!

Being in LA your hard pressed to get a good sandwich  and Subways are a dime a dozen around here. I will say if your going to buy a franchised sub to eat then Quiznos is the way to go. Everyone I know prefers the taste of Quiznos over Subway but most people got to Subway because they have the best locations and brand recognition.
I of course don't patronize either establisment and I stick to the Mexican food.
