.. your simplistic blurb announces to all of us that you are still in water wings when it comes to serious Mexican...

Simplistic is you calling authentic Mexican food what is usually thought as such in the USA; that generally is a USA invention based on Mexican cuisine, but not Mexican and certainly not what you would eat in Mexico.

Sad is that in many places in the world, what people learn to see as Mexican food is the USA version; which is basically a rehash of beans, sour cream, cheeses, avocados, corn meal based breads, shredded lettuce, minced tomatoes, the badly called salsa-sauce (just the name should tell you something), etc. Oh, and don't forget to add Corona, one of the worst Mexican beers, sold at absurd prices thanks to great USA (not Mexican) marketing. By the way, talking about "serious Mexican" food and mentioning those ingredients sounds to put it mildly silly

You can get good Mexican food in the USA, but you have to go to the restaurants where the Mexicans (that have moved from Mexico - not the USA born descendants) eat Mexican food, which certainly are not those big chains in shopping malls in the style of The Cheesecake Factory or Fridays, Qdoba or the more modest Chiplote.

I do eat (and like) the USA interpretation of Mexican food. I just do not fool myself thinking is the real thing.

LY:

Is Ned still at the Silver Dollar? If he is there the Tex-Mex will be pretty decent. Ned is from Houston and served the best Tex-Mex I have had in LOS.

Of course, it still doesn't compare to Joe T. Garcia's or El Fenix or that little Mexican restaurant just across the railroad tracks in Big Spring, but it was passable.

The Blue Parrott isn't even close and Tequilla Reef is a joke. I haven't tried Los Cabos yet but hope to some day.

There is a place called Coyote on Convent in BKK that had some good food. A little pricey but the servings were large and it was tasty.

Shenanigans in Pattaya is going to install the Coyote (They own Coyote) menu in the sports bar in Shenanigans soon. Think they're going to call it Margarita Junction.

Somebody, somewhere said Texas was annexxed by the US. Texas, actually voluntarily joined the Union in 1846 and is the only state to have been a Republic at the time they joined the Union.

Texas is the only state that is permitted to fly the flag at the same height as the US flag. All other states must be lower.

Texas is the only state that is permitted to have a state capitol building taller than the US capitol building in DC.

Texas may secede at any time from the union.

Texas may divide itself into five separate states, by law.

There are some others but I am tired now.

I am from Texas, in case you haven't guessed that yet.

I think so. Last time I ate at the Moonshine in Jomtien, it was pretty dreadful.

I'm not likely to go back there. Never really liked Ted that much anyway.

Texas is the only state that is permitted to fly the flag at the same height as the US flag. All other states must be lower.

You might be from Texas, but you might want to check your "facts":

http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texasflag.asp

"Claim: Federal law allows only the Texas state flag to be flown at the same height as the U.S. national flag.
Status: FALSE."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Texas#Urban_legend

"It is a common urban legend that the Texas flag is the only state flag that is allowed to fly at the same height as the U.S. flag. Allegedly, Texas has this right inherently (as a former independent nation) or because it negotiated special provisions when it joined the Union (this version has been stated as fact on a PBS website).[12] However, the legend is false. Neither the Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States nor the Ordinance of Annexation[13] contain any provisions regarding flags. According to the United States Flag Code, any state flag can be flown at the same height as the U.S. flag; the U.S. flag should be on its right (the viewer's left), however. Consistent with the U.S. Flag Code, the Texas Flag Code specifies that the state flag should either be flown below the U.S. flag if on the same pole or at the same height as the U.S. flag if on separate poles.[3]"

texas_flag_only_one_at_same_height_as_us_flag_urban_legend/

"Texas flag only one at same height as U.S. flag (urban legend)

The Texas flag often is placed on a flagpole at the same height as the U.S. flag on its flagpole, and it's sometimes said that Texas is the only state that can do this. The explanation given is that Texas—unlike other states—was a Republic when in entered the Union. A (licensed?) tour guide of the Texas capital city of Austin tells this on his tours.

It is an urban legend. All states can fly a state flag at the same height as the United States flag. However, if both flags are on the same flagpole, the U.S. flag code states that the United States flag must be on top.

This urban legend has been spread by word of mouth for many years, but started appearing on the internet by at least 1994 on lists such as "useless facts" and "Texas facts.""

Many other references if you google...

Of course the US flag is on top if they are flown on the same pole.

How could two flags be at the same height if they were on the same pole to begin with?

Didn't know about other states.

Texas is the only state that is permitted to have a state capitol building taller than the US capitol building in DC.

http://www.tspb.state.tx.us/SPB/capitol/texcap.htm

'An extraordinary edifice by any measure, the 1888 Texas Capitol is the largest in gross square footage of all state capitols and is second in total size only to the National Capitol in Washington, D.C. Like several other state capitols, the 1888 Texas Capitol surpasses the National Capitol in height, rising almost 15 feet above its Washington counterpart."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois_State_Capitol

"With a total ground height of 361 feet (110 m), the Illinois capitol is the tallest non-skyscraper capitol, even exceeding the height of the United States Capitol in Washington, DC. The only state capitols taller than it are the non-classical designs found in Louisiana and Nebraska, which opted for more modern buildings for their current capitols."

So at least the Illinois, Louisiana and Nebraska State Capitol buildings are all taller than the US Capitol (and the Texas capitol to boot).

Add another one to the list...

The current Wisconsin State Capitol is 284.4 feet tall. This makes it 16 feet, 2 inches taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. when both buildings are measured from a uniform point (the point used here is from ground floor rotunda to top of statue.) Traditionally the U.S. Capitol has been measured from the bottom of the east portico, which is their basement level, providing much of the confusion.
