Amazing how all I wanted to know is if there some good turkey in LOS and I get this Anti-American food nonsense.
Like I mentioned before I was insulted by the attack on the simple but faithful cheese burger not the jingoist crap.
For you culturally snobbish gourmands out there, I seriously doubt if any of you can challenge me in my experience with good food.
My father was a classically trained gourmet chef. I grew up helping him with his catering business. As any of you with cooking experience knows, a chef is constanly "experimenting" with new recipes and borrowing something from this culture and that culture to infuse into his recipes so as to make his signature dishes.
Unfortunately, was the unpaid kitchen helper and guinea pig for his concoctions. I was the only kid in grade school bringing Quiche Lorraine and Key Lime pie for lunch while others were eating baloney sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. I was terribly embarassed because no one ever wanted to trade lunches with me. I was the lunchroom leper who could never give away his leftover Duck ý l'Orange.
Keep in mind my misguided Thai food snobs that even though a dish may not be culturally native to Thailand such as Texas style ribs or hamburgers, the use of local ingredients and Thai cooking methods will more than likely give the food a distinctively Thai taste or style that you will not find in your native country.

But got me to thinking, if we deluge the boys over at the American Embassy in BKK with good burgers, maybe they lighten up and give some of our TGFs their well earned visas. Ha!

Brother JJ, since the Nana hotel is where a lot of tourist stay when they're in LOS I would imagine that the restaurant/coffee shop will probably have turkey dinners on this Thursdays menu. I'll never stay at Nana again but the food in the restaurant was quite good. Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý BTW, as far as burgers being American food is concerned, I'm not sure if I'm right about this but I always thought that the reason it's called a hamburger is because it was created in Hamburg Germany. If that's true then, even though we Americans may have taken the lowly burger to higher levels we didn't create it. Therefore the burger can not rightfully be considered an American food. Am I right or wrong? Peace

They were invented in US by a guy from...Hamburg. Needless to say people all over the world eat them so eating hamburgers has little to do with being American per se (or owning a passport Ý ).

Thanks for clarifying that for me brother Mr. Joe. So I guess you can say that the burger is a joint German and American creation. I guess I can add burgers to the list of my top 5 favorite German creations. The other 4 are Elke Sommers, Anita Eckberg, Ushi Degart, and Ursula Andress  . Peace

the only nation i constantly see glorifing herself are the usa, what for? Aren't we all the same? Aren't you taught in school that we are all the same? So why can some people not accept other cultures and their beauties?

After all was said and done I did not even have Turkey dinner in LOS. I had a huge teak at the JW.

Do not fully agree with all the "farang" food chains dominating parts of BKK and for me its nothing to do with Nationality, after all it us Brits that screwed up parts of Spain with "British Pubs".
But the ribs in Toni Romi's (I think that is what it is called) opposite the Landmark were first class and a welcome change to the excellent Thai food.
Also the old "Cabbage and Condoms" as ever given excellent value for money.
