A sandwich shop may or may not deserve a full-blown field report -- that depends on ones priorities -- but I will tell you that I was there at the Subway of Sukhumvit for the first time just this week.
The food was good, the place was spotless and the staff was friendly and spoke pretty good English.
Congrats to Sunbelt from an ex-Subway employee.

I was staying at Majestic which is just next to Subway, had nice staff and fairly priced meals....too bad I did not read this post earlier if not I would have got the free sodas but nevermind.
As mentioned the place was spotless and staff very polite. Great place for watching people even at 4am in the morning.

One thing I though I'd mentioned is that 1 night while sitting outside it smelt like something had died below the floorboards. That was on Sun night so don't know if the smell is still lingering.

Thanks for the feedback. My wife deserves the credit though. She has done a fantastic job with the staff. They emulate and respect her. Nui is a big believer in having passion for your work and customer service. The staff is starting to remember the customers names. Its quite funny when someone comes in and they say " Swadi Ka Khun Jack... a footlong today? " The reaction that they remember his name is priceless.

Sunbelt, not thrilled that the Nana shop has been out of black olives for many days... : (
BTW, I speak Thai well enough to order a sandwich, but a couple of the employees will never speak Thai to me and insist on repeating everything back to me in English. Is there a reason for that?

Thais look for the opportunity to practise speaking English. It also indicates they are cultured & multi-lingual.
Some of us do the same at home - Yo habla espanol toda la dia con la mamacita en la restaurante - ella tiene chichis grandes -

My guess is that they have been conditioned to speak English to a farang.

We now have black olives!
Vancouver Jay, Sorry bout that. The olives were sitting at the port. The Thai government recently, said if you are an importer you must have an ISO certificate. This came out of the blue.
The freight forwarder (who is one of the biggest in Thailand) was finally able to get their certificate this past week and it can clear customs. Thank God it was not a container of lettuce!

They just want to make sure they got your order right. Feel free to talk to them in Thai about your life and Bangkok, etc. They'll be happy to talk with you in Thai.
Comes to the sandwich though, they may talk English to you. If you really like them to speak Thai in refrence to your order, just ask them. They'll be happy to do so.
