I tell you, I may have the opportunity to go visit my favourite steak arena soon and I WILL be eating the best steak on the planet bar none.

All you experts think that your jwmarriot and various other posh restaurants provide the best. The wool is pulled so over your eyes you may as well be eating lambs vaginas for all you know about the 'best steaks in the world'

My god I get a horn when I think about my steak and the time honoured way we go about preparing and enacting the event.

Would it be reasonable to assume that you toss your own salad to accompany such fine meat??? :bigsmile

DumS,
The only 'toss' around here I think is 2ndcoming tossing himself around the kitchen. He or she would not have the vaguest idea how to prepare a good steak from what I have read.

Just another jerk playing with his own steak or is it sausage.

barra,
great minds and all that crap....

Exactly the impression I got, hence the comment.....

Didn't want to flame...as I'm only a new kid on the block. Besides I'm only a 7 stone weakling and some of the "tough Guys" here really scare me...lol...

Hmmmm...... Kwai, mai sabai, with a well tossed salad.......Think I'll pass

Deep File
Neil's Tavern remains the same as it has always been... reasonably reliable and absolutely no surprises. One of those owners who refuses to budge from a formula that works. I find the food uninspired at best, the seating uncomfortable and the service marginal... the menu items are the same as they were the first time I dined there 20+ years ago. I think their location and the large numbers of embassy-connected consumers in the area explain the continued survival of Neil's... the joint would not make my "top 20" for steaks, but I get trapped into eating there occasionally by the demands of business.

Saw an advert the other day that amused me.

THE BEST STEAKS IN BANGKOK

Opening June 23rd 2006.....

You'd think they would have actually cooked one before claiming the prize.....wouldn't you?

Anyway, coming soon to the Landmark.

Landmark Huh? I wonder if the Polish manager will end up there next?

Deep File you hit the nail on the head. Yes sometimes I get trapped eating there as well. The only thing novel is their car parking. Also, don't forget to bring a flashlight in order to read the menu because it is so dark in there.

They seemed to have USA beef through all the importation ban period. I was wondering that either it was not from the USA or it was very old frozen stock. That being said wherever the beef is from is it nothing to right home about.

Thanks for the reports on Neil's. Guess I will be avoiding this place when next we come to town.

I flop into Neil's on occasion as it is close by. I completely agree about all that has been said. The look will remind anyone of a steakhouse from the 60's! One thing I do like at lunch time is the complete meat, vegies, etc. menu.

Anyone been to Paloma Steak House on Suk Soi 39? Just drove by the sign yesterday and don't know if it is open yet.

US beef is no longer banned.... just has to be frozen or very well chilled (though some suppliers still say its still frozen, and then chilled to allow some dethawing)

Yurune,

I saw that sign too, while I was on the BTS and passed the Landmark...pretty boastfull from my opinion.

otherwise....

I know that this does not constituent a steakhouse, but went over to Great American Rib the other day and had their filet... pretty good, juicy, very well scored from the grill (not grey like other places) and thick well over 1 1/2 - 2 inches. Now the filet is not my choice, I personally like a ribeye or strip... and the occassional porterhouse (but only at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn)...
but this was pretty good all in all. not too expensive even. sides are not much, Rob the chef tells me that the beef is from Thailand mixed with another breed (aussie I think) and given organic feed ---- read animal and vegetable by product ---- but no hormones and stuff.
