I so like the Italian Food thread I am starting a Thai Seafood thread hoping to hear of some interesting places I havent tried.

I will start with my top 3

1. Baan Klang Nam (located Rama 3 next to Kruengthep Bridge). Fab location (almost literally a house near the middle of the river) - an old Thai house at that. Serves great food at reasonable prices. Always impresses visitors cos it is mostly Thai clientel, 'authentic atmostphere' etc..

2. Jen Ngor (a number of locations - I go to the Sathorn Rd one in the BKI building). This Thai Chinese seafood (in an office building). Has some very interesting dishes - their Pak Boon fai dern looks and tastes totally different to any other restaurant I have been to.

3. Pen restaurant - difficult to find (a shophouse on the corner of Narathiwet and Chan Road). Possibly the best food of all but expensive (despite the shophouse atmosphere). Try the pla nok gao (parrot fish from Vietnam).

Others?

jack attack
Went to Silom Village restaurant this weekend - somewhere between Sukhumvit soi 31 and 23. The seafood was excellent. They have a small 'market' stand with the fish on display but not anything like the Soi 24 market (and also, they don't rip people off like soi 24!!) Had crab with glass noodles, fried garoupa, and a 'green' fish curry plus vegies and rice.

All very good (fried fish was exceptional) and the bill for 4 people including beers was BT 1600.

Abrak,
You hit the nail on the head!
# 1 and 2 are on the all time favourite list.
Alwaystry to avoid discussing too much. It is great as it is and I do not miss the hordes of tourists.
#3? Do not know but will try. Thanks for the tip.

CiaoCiao
Yok Yor Klongson Restaurant.
Other side of Chao Phraya, relaxed outdoor dining overlooking the river. Casual low-key atmosphere, excellent selection of seafood, good prices, free ferry service - pickup and return from either or possibly both the River Center Pier or the Si Praya Pier (each side of Roya Orchid Sheraton). Live music and comedy entertainment in background.

Abrak, Manuel,
Look forward to trying your recommendations - thanks.

jack,
Dittos everything you said about Silom Village - plus it is a very pleasant/romantic patio atmosphere - candlelit tables in the midst of antique stores, plants, fountain, etc.

BTW, this has been mentioned in greater length on other threads: except for personal recommendatons, stay as far away from the giant 'Seafood Palace' type outdoor tourist traps as you can - most are total ripoffs.

The big street seafood place in Si Lom Soi 1 is pretty good and there is a great Chinese Thai seafood restaurant on Thanon Rang Nam, at the Ratcha Prarop end (opposite end to Phaya Thai end). I agree that the food at Si Lom Village is very good too. My SO was *very* impressed when we saw Miss World there when we ate there once. (I was very impressed that she knew who the Australian bint surrounded by Army/Police/Politicians was!)

I must admit the best raw prawns I've ever had were in the place next to Pratunam Pier right next to the khlong (East side of Ratcha Damri, same side as Big C, opposite side to World Trade Centre, not the Chinese Thai place opposite, which I've never visited but looks good too...)

Yok Yor is great!!! I took my mother-in-law there for her 55th, my now ex, her girlfriend and her husband (a police captain and a really nice chap). Great food, view, and atmosphere. It was Dec of 96 and the fireworks were going off for the Kings 50th Anniv of Coronation.

Oen problem. There was a TB dude across the way who was guzzling coke and rum, smoking like a Russian factor, and coughing and spitting up sputum and blood. Nobody seemed to noticed. We finally got annoyed and the good captain kindly made him leave.

Otherwise, the food was excellent, but I stayed away from the Coke.
