Take any Thai girl and plonk her in a restaurant, put a menu in her hand (one in Thai hopefully) and order yourself a beer, put your feet up and settle down with a good book.
The reason….any Thai girl in my experience that I have taken for some fodder is desperately indecisive when it comes to food. They will, to a girl, peruse the entire menu, item by item then having read the whole thing cover to cover, taking seemingly eons, look up at George, whose stomach is digesting itself by this point and is now considering eating the toothpicks, smile, giggle and say ‘I don’t know, I not sure’ and start from page 1 again. This is not only for farang food but Thai also in my experience and for regular gals as well as recent acquisitions.
Now Georgie has patience, a lot of it but why oh why cant Thai gals help him out a little here….so I have new rules:
1) Only go to restaurants with a limited menu
2) If they say ‘up to you, you order for me’ be prepared for them to say ‘Mai aroi’ – so try to avoid that if possible and persevere with their order…see No 1 above.
3) Failing that….use street stalls where food is good, cheap and only have 1 or two variants.
4) Go out to eat a good hour before you figure being hungry
5) George to ask BTF chaps for tips on hurrying along your Thai girls order……
Over to you guys……any hints?

agree but-
1) it ain't only Thai girls
2) suggest going to restaurants that DON"T have menus written in Thai
3) eat before you go out
4) order an appetizer immediately when you are seated and tell her it is excellent here and you both can share
5) never, ever take a Thai girl to a fusion restaurant that gets off on describing each freakin' ingredient in extensive detail

Very often, Thais have "Kreng Jai" manner on dinning table when they are invited for a dinner, very likey that they are not paying. This "Kreng Jai" can develope an indecisive attitude.... I think?
Anything else beside Thai and Isaan dishes, They probably has no idea what are in the menu???? and when you order for them, your farang taste and Thai tongue does not seem to match. Does not it upsetting/bothering you when the girls saying "Mai Aroi" and your the one end up paying for the dinner, especially in a nice restaurant?
Probably....
- Let the girls choose the restaurant where they already know they would like the food there. instead, they could recommend you which dishes are favorites and you might like it too.
- Usually in nice restaurants, the menus come with description of how the food are prepared, may be you can explain it to her? may be the waiter also.
or - take out.

took two tg's to dinner last trip. each one had her own menu which accounted for the first 30 minutes.
they then argued over the selection for the next 45 mnutes.
as the evening ended with both in my hotel room - who really cares.
all's well that ends well!

By my personal experience,
First date with Thai Girl (she is Marketing Supervisor in Internet Company), she choose a lot of food in Italian Restaurant and then not finish eat it, so I have to eat the rest of food that I even don't like it, because so many plate that even not touch by her. (I only like Spaghetti or Pasta if eat in Italian Restaurant).
Second date with Thai mature woman (she is one of the rich Thai conglomerate wife), she choose menu wisely, asking me first what I want and then choose for her by herself.
Third date with Piano girl that now being my GF, she choose a lot and eat a little part of each menu she take. That means she wants it but do not like to eat much (she is an extreme diet woman).
So my opinion, Thais have table manner that do not want to harm our feeling, that make her confuse to choose. However, most important thing education background has more strong influence. So, if you want good date in restaurant with Thais woman, just choose one that has good education background and social status. As in my humble opinion, the best date in restaurant is with that somebody's wife, because her social status and education background.

what a load of boll/;ks, never had a problem like this decide what's good to eat fish meat and then order in thai you order then disagre or agree with it cool, life is too short for all this sh_t I tell them all thank god, allah buddah tevadah you've got food on the table, and if it's all not finished big problems, had one big headed bg years ago she could order then ate a little, ow ! I was drunk but not stupid (ngaw) either you eat or you pay ? she thought I was joking I stood up and left the place, next day in the bar she told me you owe me 700 baht I told her to ;['- herself.

First you must understand the rules...
1) As has been pointed out, you are generally expected to order the food (as you are paying)
2) Leaving plates of food unfinished or untouched is normal and not considered insulting to the restaurant.
3) A comment such as 'mai aroi' is just that - a comment and is not the sort of 'unbelievable insult' that it would be in the west.
4) All dishes with thai food are generally shared.
5) If you think that TGs spend a long time ordering wait until you see how long they take to eat.
Bearing this in mind, this is what you should do...
First you go ahead and order from your limited 'selection' - then you ask the TG if there is anything she would particularly like. The waiter is there so she has to make a decision - if she says 'up to you' choose a couple of dishes that you dont know.
If you and/or the TG likes them - great (you have also increased your limited selection) - if not, dont worry, it simply doesnt matter. If the TG doesnt eat much, dont worry (she isnt worrying) and, anyway, she'll be snacking again soon. Dont forget to offer her a dessert or ice cream.

'Eat up or pay up' is an interesting suggestion but I think it should be posted under 'how to get rid of tgs that you dont want to see again'. Very effective I imagine....
