How good is the turkey on the American turkey day in Thailand?  Are the birds juicy and delicious or dry and tasteless.  Are they raised in Thailand or imported?

You couldn't possibly be American because you would know that hambugers are never ROASTED!  you would also know that McDonalds and Burger King use entirely different cooking methods in burger preparation.  One fry's their burgers on a griddle and the other flame broils.  You call yourself an American? I think not! Your an imposter sir! A pure fraud!  I do agree that you are ignorant.

sure i can not know and i do not care as i do not tend to eat this stuff! especially not in thailand where so many better options than american food are available.
how would you act if a thai person is coming up to you in the us and only asking you where to get the best khao pad and how tom yam kung in new york does compare to that one in bangkok and wether the kungs are really fresh enough and not stuffed with any of these american growth hormons or antibiotics?
this is ignorance to me! why wanting to come to thailand if you do not want to adapt a little to the country! i suggest with that sort of attitude you better never travel outside the USA!

P.S. Thanks for calling me ignorant on american food! as a well educated european it is a great honor for me and my taste being called an ignorant imposter on american food! thanks again for the compliment!

I would only agree with 90% of what you say here Griffin.   After a week straight of Thai food 2 times a day I could usually use a good burger.  Or a steak.  Or something not Thai.    I love Thai food to death, you can't fault a guy for liking Turkey on Thanksgiving for Christ sake.

Frankly, if you talk 99% of the Thai and made them eat in New York they'd be doing everything they could to find a Thai restaurant.  Luckily, there are many here to choose from...

hell yes! i can also not eat thai food every day and do need a western food treat at least every second day!
but on the other hand I wouldn't care wether the chateaubriands or schnitzels in thailand are of the same quality as in france or germany! who gives a shit, we are in thailand and there are certainly a million more interesting things to ask and complain about than the standard of american food in bangkok!
we are in thailand and not the U.S.A. so things won't be the same anywhere on this planet!

Most everybody likes some comfort food now and then.  It doesn't make you evil.  And as zzzZ pointed out, it's most likely a holiday tradition and not some bizarre craving.

jjsushi:  I think that there's a place on Washington Square, maybe Bourbon Street, that does a full Thanksgiving dinner.  Check out Trink's column in the Friday Bangkok Post for details.  If I get a chance I'll look it up for you later.

Happy Thanksgiving!  (and those of you living la dolce vita in LOS have a lot to be thankful for!)

there are turkeys in thailand. they're called "gai nguang" or "trunk chicken" (roughly translated). they're raised locally, though i wouldn't be surprised if there are imported ones. however, i wouldn't go looking for frozen turkey in the local supermarket meat section

there are some restaurants that offer authentic thanksgiving dinner, i am sure. i think private clubs with lots of western members like the heritage club on top of sogo building offer it every year.

griffin, it'd be a shame not to sample all cuisines that bangkok has to offer - american or otherwise. for instance, there are some righteous american steakhouses in bangkok that are almost on par with the best in new york or chicago. granted, most of them use US beef and US chefs

Griffin, apparently you consider it a waste of time for jj to ask a two line question about Turkey, but it's quite alright to make three posts and 50 lines on a tirade against American food and how ignorant Americans could even consider eating non-Thai food one day out the year. You have serious psychological issues and built-up resentment over us Americans if little things like this cause you to go off.

And by the way, I know many Thai people who come to the US and eat nothing but Thai, Chinese and Japanese food. Should I send them your way so you can harangue them about not going out to an american steakhouse?
