Since my "home" these days when in Bangkok is President Solitaire it is of course natural to use neighbouring businesses. For those familiar with the area it might not be new but for other bros it can be noted that soi 11 has quite a bit to offer. For instance just a block away is the Q-bar and just a few minutes walk takes you to for instance Beergarden at soi 7.
I have found a restaurant near the hotel by the name La Piola to be a really nice place to visit. Excellent food very true to the Italian experience you would expect, laidback and very friendly. It is managed by a younger gentleman from either Austria or Switzerland - cant remember which - and he does a good job. I strongly recommend a visit and you find at the end of soi 11 next to the 7/11. Food is very well prepared and delicious and service is perfect. Prices very affordable.
Many TG likes pasta and I have been taking my friend there many times and she likes it a lot even though they dont have any thai food. I understand they dont have very busy days and that is unfair since it is a good place. I therefore post this recommendation for you guys to visit it and I dont think you will be disappointed!
There are also 2 other very good Italian restaurants on soi 11 you can visit. Go find out! Happy dining!

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but this venue already appears in the Italian Restaurant thread... where additional comments would be a good fit. Perhaps this should have been posted in the Promotions area?

Ok ok - so sorry! I cant see a specific thread on this restaurant and I HAVE UTFSE!
It is not often one has to go completely 180 degrees. But as much as formerly recommending this place - La Piola - I now have to say: STAY AWAY!
I have eaten there several times earlier and it was ok. But they seem to have made changes in the kitchen and take my word - it is not for the better!
Since I always stay at Solitaire it is easy to drop down to them. Last week I went in for some good pasta - I thought. They had put the whole salt teller in the food!
And not generally well cooked. Lukewarm and very obviously kept for a long time on the shelf since dry and tasteless. But salt was the worst. Told the falang guy there that they had to look after that. His response was: "Yes sorry but they seem to have a taste for putting to much salt in the food". Surprised at him knowing this already I responded: "Well maybe you should to something to change that?"
Ok - everyone can make a mistake so went back tonight again. Pasta absolutely with no flavour and taste and AGAIN salted more than the Red Sea. Told the chap again who just responded "I am sorry". No attempts to change or make up. Just like "eat your food and be happy". To be honest - I HATE that attitude! And there are enough places around to really kick shit attitude places like that to the curbe!
Paid with AMEX instead of cash so they were sure to be hit by their charge - and of course no tip - which I never end up doing otherwise.
La Piola - a shitplace that has sunken below the standard we bros at this forum wants. So my honest advice is: take your business elsewhere!
For example CONTRAZZI on soi 11 - which is a very good Italian and never let me down so far. TPE and me had an excellent meal there not so long ago for instance. He likes his fishes white!

i have been to la piola and agree it was better some time ago... not sure what happened but it is not what is once was (then again, nor am i)
I recommend you try Bascilco's on Suk 33...really good italian at a fair price. they have a full bar, good wine selection and you can bring your own wine. I highly recommend the "special buffalo milk mozzarella salad" and the pizzas are great.

la piola was best back on soi 13. since they moved it has not been the same. I think mama has moved to pattaya, as I hear good thing about their branch there. of course mama likes the seabreeze better than the pollution in bangers.
not sure about basilico anymore. seems to be to much "canteen" like these days.
well, can't really blame him, he is busy, seriously.

hmmm, well I was raised in the midwest (US) so WTF do I know about italian food anyway 
Just when I compare my last two dinners at LP with my B, there was no comapison....plus, after a good meal and lots of wine, you can stroll down 33 and find all sorts of way to work off those carbs!

I am always open to recommendations on good italian so please let me know...
btw, there is a guy that use to sell to the trade that is now retailing great italian cheese, meats, pastas, etc. Not the cheapest in town but certainly has a great selection and much of it is flown in weekly from Rome. He can even do special orders for somethings.
Not sure about doing a plug here but it anyone is interested, PM and I will pass along the details.

same story with me. extreemly salty.
the antipasti is good but the rest what follows from their big menu was a real pile of shit
soup was only salt, seafood full of salt etc.
in soi 13 I liked it a lot but quality came down soo much I would recomend not even to try it.
Mama is still there but seems she does not care what people get on the plate.
