Last night I went to a place called, improbably enough,
LOVE SCENE, on soi 23 a few doors from Soi Cowboy.
Inside were four serious Issan-looking fellows cooking behind a new brick wall and lots of plumpish girls hanging around a bar. I was going to bolt but looked at the menu. Decent. I ordered and food was a revelation: Utterly sweet, perfectly cooked prawns, one of the best catfish mango salads I've had, and a mound of sliced pork (again perfectly cooked) that came with a very rich, very mysterious sauce (tamarind based?)
The food was cheap but the drinks were expensive. I think the place is an odd combination of bar girl bar and serious Issan eating place? Anybody know anything about this place, and was I just lucky this night?

We all know this place. Just another late night drinking place. Food is great after 2 bottles of voBKa. When sober the quality seems to be far less. Operated by the former owners of same named bar/restaurant on Cowboy.

UKYorkie I believe wrote quite a FR about this place.
It's been recently refurbed, far less of a bar and far more of a restaurant these days. Last time I was theredrinking seemed less on the agenda. The bar area was far smaller and more cramped to stand and enjoy a beer.
I think the police situation may have made it more advantageous for them to be a restaurant first.

Oh the Love scene used to be one of my fav places, I used to spend quite a few evenings there, but that was before they moved the bar arround, def recomend the food there as thats still great but it has lost that air of an all night drinking place.

Last trip I was walking past outside late one night and the manger recognised me and dragged me in. nice touch welcomed me like a long lost friend and bought me a drink. Not sure why they have moved the bar but never mind. Anyway I had been seeing one of the girls in there but she was not working that night, next thing I know some girl behind the bar that I have never met gets this girl on the phone and passes it to me..... that was a nice touch.........
Another night I call in and she is working behind the bar, so I offer to buy her a drink which she accepts but she gets everyone in the bar one  1K round of drinks that I never asked for, that sort of killed the place for me.......
I have been back, and its still a nice place to eat and drink (just watch your tab) but the odd nice girl in there is good to go late on with no BF

Yes thats the place  , thats why the manger knows me so well............... Last time I was there the 2 katoey's were both still working there as well, god I used to have a laugh in that place........

Thanks for the information. Just a correction, Manuel: It was gin, not voBKa, that might have lowered my critical acuity (is that the right word?). Or raised it. You know,
I've eaten in lots of ordinary places in bkk and this place seemed a bit better than that. (Or was it the gin... ) Couldn't the food have just gotten better?

Lux, I was not referring to your drinking habits but only to my own. When I wrote above post this was still in my veins. Many better places then Love Scene. It is reasonable but sure not excellent. Or maybe it is the Gin??

Yes, Manuel, I know there are better places in BKK, but I wasn't aware of this place and the contrast between the food and the atmosphere sort of suprised me. But I need more fingers than I have on my hands to count the times that, in even the most reputable places in BKK, the pork has been overcooked and leathery or the BBQ shrimps showed up bitter and odd. This place was at least able to pull off a decent meal for a decent price.
But of course, it may be that most of the time this place is just plain mediocre. In that case I was lucky (or drunk.)
PS: VoBKa over gin? Well, there is no accounting for taste.
