When we want to eat good food the word restaurant springs to mind but there is a cheaper and sometimes tastier alternative: Food Courts in shopping malls. The standard of hygiene far outstrip the food carts found on the streets, pricing is very affordable and there are an assortment of food stalls offering meat, fish, savoury snacks and exotic fruits. I also noticed, especially in BKK, that these places are patronised by local working people (office clerks and shop assistants). What’s your favourite food court in BKK? I know a few in Pattaya but for some reasons I haven’t managed to tour food courts in BKK, except for a handful ones. The best I have found is in Phloenchit Plaza, near Phloen Chit BTS station, just a stone throw from NEP. I wasn’t that impressed in the food offering and ambience in Siam Center, I’m afraid to say. So, do you have any favourite place to recommend? Sarge

My favorite one is at the Fortune mall, I think the one on the 3rd floor. You get a charge card instead of the coupons and they have a great selection. Last time I was there they were running a special where I think you got 50% extra on your card. Another good one is in Robinson's on Ratchadaphisek. Both have my favorite food court specialty, cau mon cay cop. Fried crispy chicken with rice and soup. It's really good.

Yes I liked the one at Phloenchit Plaza as well. I got excited when I finally found it on my last day in BKK after eating in a couple other restaurants below it. 40-60 baht for a complete and decent meal with drink.

I forgot to mention the food hall at Emporium, great place to be in (it reminds me of Harrods in London) but quite expensive. I have to say that their deli counters are the best and most varied I've come across in Thailand. And best of all when you finished eating you walk across the hall and do some serious shopping for electronic gadgets. Sarge

Probably the most upscale food court is in the Central Department Store at Chidlom BTS stop. This is an international food court with each section run by one of better restaurants in town.

Panthip Plaza - they have three food courts there, the central one on the 2nd floor, and two separate ones on the half-floor in between 1st and 2nd floor All have great food. Harry

The food court at Pantip Plaza works for me. More affordable but perhaps not as good as some of the others mentioned above. Good ice cream counter provides for a nice finish. Hey Harry, great minds think alike!
