I have always been happy with Baipho and its owner Mr. R...
...untill they where fully booked last fall and Mr R. offered to book a room in a nearby smaller and more simple hotel for me. When I found out that this hotel is much cheaper when I book with them myself Mr. R. was very much pissed off about my move and sent me a very very *rude* email which has put Baipho and Mr. R. off my list...
Nevertheless Baipho is excellent value for money and unfortunately unique in Patong... Just make sure you get along with their owner...
Oh by the way: does anyone know about a gf boutique style close-to-the-action hotel in Patong?

Rudi is fine, sometimes like most Expats in Thailand has staff issues and things go tits up but normally he offers a good place to stay at a fair price!

When I stayed here a few years back I saw who I believe was the manager angrily yelling at two of his staff girls near the reception area. I remember thinking perhaps this is something you shouldn't do in front of the guests. Whatever it was, he was pretty pissed off.
Other than that, rooms are great and the staff was very friendly to me.
