first time to Phuket in 18 years - and my priorities have changed somewhat 
Therefore I am looking for a hotel that meets the following criteria:
- budget is B2,500-B3,000 in april
- not too far from bangla / night action
- close to beach
- nice pool for relaxing (v. important)
- good breakfast
- comfortable lodgings of 4 star quality
- TG friendly (or very friendly)
any advice would be greatly appreciated and even earn you a beer or two if you are in patong at the same time!

I stayed in the roof top bungalows twice...one time with friends looking for a good time and one time with the folks and mrs atl....
It fit both scenarios well.....nice pool!

Not exactly 4 star but definitely a great place to stay. Excellent staff, clean, very GF, right across the street from Bangla, and walking distance to the beach. IMO it's a great value. They have spacious suites starting at 1780 baht in April.
There is no pool on site, but you get free admission to one on the same soi. There is also a very nice gym/pool place called Tailife 1 soi across where you can purchase a membership for a rather reasonable price (daily, weekly, and monthly memberships are available). Tailife also has a sauna and steam room as well as a little bar/restaurant. I found it a very relaxing place to start my mornings.

at baipho/baithong they use the swimming pool of the neighbouring 4star hotel.
baipho bought them some nice furniture and did the gardening, so now all baipho customers can use the pool for free.

thanks for the advice... baan laimai might be the one.
couple more questions if I may...
- how long to walk to Bang La from the hotel?
- would you recommend a bungalow or deluxe room?
- when returning at night with a TG do you recommend they hand their ID to security guards?
ALSO - anyone know if the construction site next door is still an issue?
