Country's cleanest toilets recognised

Toilets at CentralWorld shopping complex, Suan Luang Rama IX Park and 20 other places in the country have been given Outstanding Toilet Awards for 2011.
Other toilets to get a nod included those at Bang Chak, Piyabut and Tawarawadee Schools, Ayutthaya Polytechnic and Surin Vocational Colleges, Wat Sa Kaeo, Wat Makutkasattriyaram, Uthai Hospital, Ban Phai Khwang Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Khuan Phasuk Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Muang Kranuan municipal market, Khamkhuenkaeo Petroleum Ltd, Na Cha-ang and Nakhon Sawan railway stations, Prasart Thong restaurant, Suan Rimkhao restaurant, Banrai Cowboy restaurant, Nong Luang Tambon Administrative Organisation, Konsarn District Public Health Office and Chumphon Provincial Public Health Office.
Deputy Public Health Minister Surawit Khonsomboon said the outstanding toilets had achieved satisfactory scores when assessed according to health, accessibility and safety criteria. Around 55 per cent of public toilets have met the criteria since the health ministry created the award in 2005. A total of 159 public toilets across the country have been honoured as good examples.
The Cabinet agreed to issue ministerial regulations stating that toilets at restaurants and petrol stations must be hygienic; these rules took effect in May.
