I know there are lists of bars, MPs, etc on this board, but it would be sooo helpful to a newbie like myself to see some kind of ratings for these places by those who have visisted them. ÝI know a lot of these places, good and bad, have been mentioned in the forum, but it's kinda hard to keep track of all of the comments.

Here the rub about a scoreboard, I can go into Annie's MP and have the time of my life for 1500. The next guy who comes in can have a lousy time for any number of reasons or no reason. In October, Cubyking, BK and toto and a couple of other members went to Soi Cowboy, a couple of bars that guys have had good comments about were dead the night we were there. We would have given them a bad rating that night. I can say one place I've been to were I've never been disapointed is the Beergarden on Soi 7.

rating bars is not all that easy..
What I might like you may not like. Same as with the girls.. I like them tiny with small boobs.. some guys would rate a girl a 5-6 that I might think is an 8-9 and vice versa.. girls with big boobs just do nothing for me..
At DC10 (NEP) there is an older gal with large apparently natural boobs and many guys just think she is so hot.. I just sort of think "mooooooooo" ...
the other thing that makes this hard is the constant change in many of the bars.. some bars are pretty consistant, but many change from good to yuck is a few months ..
for example, Rosemary Bar (NEP) about two years ago was very, very good. I took several girls out of there and went in for a few HJ/BJ too .. went back the following May and it was terrible.. had another friend with exactly the same feelings ..
Midnite bar at Cowboy has been one of my favorites, but this last trip I noted that the downturn in the quality of the girls was continuing.. a few of the girls I liked are still there, but most have left and their replacements are not as good looking (again personal opinion) ..
I think your best bet is to make a point of reading current posts a month or so before your trip.. or perhaps start a topic like this asking for recommendations (and why) a week or two before you leave.
Another problem with rating bars is what do they offer and what is it that guys like. Many guys really like the go/go scene.. I really don't like it. I like a bar where I can go in and talk to the girls and the noise level in many bars is really bad.
Other bars offer the "pussy" shows.. fine for a new guy, but after a while this gets very, very old .. plus they have gotten to the point now that the girls then go out and try and get tips from the guys too .. for example, girl writes your name with a pen in her pussy .. you are expected to buy this from her .. another, the girls hand you a balloon and then shoot it with a dart.. then they come and want a tip .. it ain't the money as much as the constant hustle that pisses me off.. B20 is only 50 cents after all, but you are trying to relax and have a good time and then you have this gal in your face wanting a handout .. yuck ..
There has been quite a discussion on BJ bars and I think they are pretty fairly discussed.. but there are differences .. even between ones like Lolitas and Alley Cat which are owned and managed by the same people .. the differences may make no difference to some, but do to others ???
Keeping track of all the comments is not easy, but probably better than a rating system .. IMO

Come on guys, rating bars is not an exact science and only a fool would expect that any rankings are absolutes.
Clearly having some reasonable rating system is better than not having one. While we may have differences in our opinions over various girls, statistically we will come to a number that is a reasonable guess for how a new visitor would rate the girl. While bars do change over time, there is a statistical relationship between how a bar was a year ago and how it is now (if it was good then it is more likely to be good now, if it was bad then it is more likely to still be bad). While there are different types of bars we each like, we can certainly have different ratings and rankings for gogos, beer bars, soapy massages, oil massages, bargain MPs, karaoke bars, BJ bars, etc. You can even break down the ratings into attactiveness, service, cost, etc. since each of us would put a different weight on those factors.
The only difficulty is in setting up the ranking system, administering it and policing it, which are not trivial jobs. If the information is out there, people can do with it what they like.

I do understand that each person's experience in these places is very subjective and also depends on a lot of other factors like time of day or year of the visit, which mamasan is on duty, etc., and the same person may have a bad experience one visit and the next one really good.
I also understand that different individuals look for different things, like one may rank physical appearance of the BGs as very high, while others value attitude, the price or cleanliness of the place.
I should have expanded my original post and explain a little bit more of what I have in mind. ÝWhat I am thinking of is not a composite rating with just one rating for one place, but something where I can tell if 20 visits have been made by various individuals, how many of those are good and how many are bad. ÝMy assumption is that if out of 20 visits, only 2 were rated good and the other 18 were bad, then I would have a better idea what to expect. ÝOf course, if the system can break down the various categories, like price, friendliness, appearance of BGs, it would be that much better.
It is a difficult project, but I think it's a beneficial one, especially for newbies to the LOS.

I would actually settle for a less quantitative and more subjective list (or lists).
Since BK is not just the moderator/administrator, but also an active participant in this lifestyle and contributor to this board I would trust his judgement (to a certain degree  ).
I think we would get 90% of the benefit of the scoreboard, if he were to list his top few bars, MPs in each category and list those that should be avoided (perhaps using markers in the currently provided lists). His top few would be based on his personal opinions, but also general feedback and lobbying from the board. The "places to avoid" list would consist of those bars that have received many negative reports. It's not scientific, but it gives the newbie a lot of reasonably good information very quickly.
Another approach, which is harder to implement and I have yet to see on any board is to let each member create his own list of favorite bars. You could then create a report showing the most popular bars, but you could also go to a poster who seems to have similar interests and see what they like. I would also allow each person to create a list of "New Places I Plan on Visiting Soon", which could be Baron's, Eden, Angelwitch, ... and would be some indication of the current hotspots and recent buzz.
Of course, if I were in Thailand, like BK, I would spend more time actually doing, rather than reporting on, the scene.

I would reckon with the size of this board, the turnover, various opinions etc, would quickly balance out, the crap places would eventually sift down to the bottom of the ratings ... any one posting good reviews would boost the chance for a re-visit by others.
Seasonal, and even monthly flactuations, patterns would be most interesting...

The rating system is definitely the most challenging. Let me use Massage Parlors as an example. If you have only been to one or two, how would you be able to give an objective rating for the two that you have been to? Additionally, your experience would be based on what you did at that time and day. If you were there too early, you would see many girls there and probably have a negative impression on the quantity of girls there.
Here is an alternative suggestion, I could create links from the main massage page, to link to forum discussion on each of the massage parlors. That way the reader can view the discussions and decide for himself if that place is worth a visit.
If rankings were to be done, we could have a format that each member can adhere to, such as quantity, quality, cleanliness, location, surcharge, etc. Agreed, we all have our own standards, so if we see a certain posters ranking, and if his ranking matches yours, you would most probably follow his rankings in future. So, rather than taking averages, it would be better to have ranking based on each members' personal experience.

Im thinking that the ratings would evolve, after initially being skewed. Your idea sounds good, about catogories.
But does this makes sense: If i go to my first massage parlor, at 2k i think its a bargain, happy with the girls, room etc, beause its my first, I rate it 8/10. But after trying 10 places, I realise that the others are better, I rate the best a 9, and anything worse than my first goes down to a 5. Accross the board this averages out. Ranking quality of girls wld obviously be the most difficult thing.....

Chompoo idea has merit ecept the guys who live in BKK for the most part don't go to go go and other bars we short term vacationer want to hit. For instance when I meet toto for the first time he remarked about the different bars the locals go to and what we wanted to go to I asked him were he goes. He turned me on to a couple of bars that are pretty cool in Patpong. I'll defer to toto if he wants to pass on the names. What might work is a weekly update topic. I know I will give a update when I go to Pattaya in 17 days (God that has a nice ring to it).
