Concerning the Guy, as Manuel said it would be difficult to give advise with such limited infos. However if you are 100% sure you are dealing with a con man........

Caronte, I hope that this is not who I think it is. The Master Con Man. I thought Italian's had their way of taking care of things. I have loaned various amounts to many Thai people. None of them paid back, except one which I personally hounded for months for 40K back. Fortunutely, I was able to rid myself of many inlaws and in looking back it was a good investment.

20k baht is not that much. Write it off as a lesson learned. You could do more damage to this con-man by making his identity common knowledge to all of us. This would do 2 things:
1) Keep any of us from making the same mistake
2) Keep him from getting any new business.
I know it pisses you off, but sometimes you just need to let it go and chalk it up to experience. Next time you will know better and think twice.

I know about the case. And because I agree with Manuel, I will not discuss here what I know.
However, this is a good example of why keeping a good reputation is so important. Because once you have got yourself a bad reputation, no matter what the facts are, you are never going to get the benefit of the doubt.
Moral satisfaction? There is always the posibility of REVENGE. The following quote on revenge is from Playboy magazine:

TU, true Italians have their own ways, call it the "Family way" to clear out things, but as I said, I'm a decent person and a nice guy and I'm really not into it.
Different from your experience, everytime I loaned money to a Thai I get it back, considering that they ask for help and they do not set up a monkey biz to rip me off......the few Thais around me know me very well...if they come clear, I do help them everytime they need and they don't even think of screwing me cuz they'd lose a sure help for ever.....
I'm not sure your Master Con Man is the same guy I'm dealing with and to respect the rules of the forum I'm not going to make any name......if this guy reads this thread, I hope he will have the decency to appreciate my kindness in this matter.
Still, he screwed many people before me but this time he get it wrong with me: as I told him already, better don't make me forget I'm a nice guy....

In my opinion you are wrong in this instance. But that is irrelevant as the other guy -your counterpart- has a bad reputation. And that is why most likely you will come ahead.
