CG,, I think you miss-understand my statement about BKK not being the same as it was. Sure plenty of fun available these days ( my trip in Jan / feb ) was good.
I was more pointing at the financial aspects,, for some that is of little consequence but unfiotunately it is an important factor for me.Part of the attraction to BKK was the relative value,, that no longer exists.2,000BHT for a decent hotel, 140 BHT drinks and 2,500 BHT l/t make it a very expensive habit ( admittedly an expensive habit for me). So what was a cheap holiday is now quite expensive from my perspective,, 2k hotel,10X 140 BHT drinks plus 5X lady drinks + 2.5K l/t is 6,600BHt per day without eating or shopping.
For me that is EXPENSIVE, and unsustainable.
In fact it is now cheaper for me to holiday in Northern Australia,,, admittedly the gals would have to be s/t.
I realise other members will not comprehend this,, they are perhaps earning 100,000 pounds per year or 220,000 US$,, etc,unfortunately I am not.
What was once a paradise of in -expensive fun has turned into an over-priced place of fun.
I truly love Thailand and it's people,, but it is most certainly pricing itself out of the realms of the average tourist.

if you want to make your money last, just stop staying in 2k/night hotels and hangin' out in bars that charge you 140/drink
and surely you can get an LT for less than 2,500

Damn! That would be unsustainable for me too! One way to save is to look for a cheaper hotel, like Mike's Place.  And instead of buying so many lady drinks, let the other guy do it, and then buy her the last lady drink before you take her out.  If you are going to drink so much, get a bottle, in most places, mixers would be free (such as Bamboo Bar). And get the freelancers, they are quite flexible, 2,000 B LT is possible.

If you would stay in Mike's Place... maybe you would save THB 800 on hotel bills per day, but your spending on those russian girls would be much higher..
Another tip: spend your holiday completely in Pattaya!

Have to agree with MG. It is more expensive than just a year ago. The hotel I used to stay at raised their price bt320 a night. Because of the exchange rate my bt2k LT's are costly now, but I don't let it get me down. I just found a different hunting ground.
I dropped down a notch in hotel quality, still clean, and plenty of hot water, but no safe, or other amenities. No shower caps, (I brought my own, and 14 girls used the same one with no complaints......lol).
FL's are the way to go now. LT's from bt500-bt1k. ST's from beer garden for bt1k. Same quality on the street as you find in most bar beers, or gogos. In fact after 2am half the street girls are gogo girls on their way home, the rest of the night for bt1k.
I'm happy again, I will return.

I guess the fish business isn't doing so well. 2K a night is about $57 USD a night. Try getting a room like that in the USA?
I am planning a trip to the UK where a decent room is costing about $260 USD a night then I hear that they have a policy of charging double for two people in the room. That is down right criminal. I just the girl friend is not going.
Mel sounds like a cheap holiday what is your budget?

Hey taxi fare hasn't increased for years. In fact in the good old days (Early 90's) a farang could not get a taxi to go anywhere for less than 80 THB before meters and before the 1997 devaluation.
In fact if you use 1997 as a benchmark. I was paying 1000 THB a night for a room at Mike's Place Hotel. about $40.00 USD. Now your 2K night is about $57.00 USD so quite reasonable inflation rate.
If you want to complain about the high price of something try condos, cars and wine.
