I saw on CCTV last night that there is a new case of SARS in singapore.
chinese and hk authorities have stepped up security measures to prevent a new outbreak.
is it true about the SARS, anybody in sing has the newest intel??
I am a bit worried, sitting here in deepest china.
any info (and also useless posts) is appreciated.

Yes, there is a new case of SARS in Singapore but the WHO does not want to classify it under that category yet as the symptoms displayed do not meet all the definitions.
This is because SARS testing varies from country to country. Singapore has decided to classify it under SARS because the tests they have done have come up positive and just to play safe they are taking precautions.
The infected person is only one SINGLE case...no cluster involved. Apparently the guy infected was a PhD student working in high risk labs where there was live SARS virus stored. He was not working on this strain of virus to the best knowledge of the Singapore government so they are still trying to find out if he was exposed to it in the lab.
He was smart enough to stay home before he was diagnosed so contact was minimal and those who have been in contact have been quarintined. Nobody else has turned up positive...so its a safe bet that this was a very isolated case.
So as much as it scares all of us...I think this case is a one-off thing.

RTB, there was a study done that anyone during the last SARS outbreak that ate dog, did not catch the disease, Shitzu's rated well, but those chinese dogs with all the flabby skin rated highest, especially if eaten with the flabby skin roasted pork crackle kinda way. So get stuck into it and you will be fine.

The WHO has alerted a couple of months ago that they expect a smallish resurgence of SARS in the fall, when flu season starts.
Makes sense, and I actually believe this will happen - I have a (personal) feeling that we haven't seen the last of SARS, simply because I highly doubt Chinese authorities' stories regarding how China has gotten SARS under control. Just personal paranoia regarding a highly un-trustworthy country and its gov't.
I mean, would you trust North Korea making the same statement?
Heck, it'll just mean that prices will drop even further.

thanks NM, that is really comforting after all the amount of dogs I eat and f_cked the last 3 weeks.
well shit last week I accidently eat dog, I even ordered it myself from the restaurant display (it was all cut up and ready to serve), and I only ordered it because it came with naan bread. it is not worth trying though. snake, duckhead or chickenfeet are much tastier.
shar pei is the name of that little folding doggie. haven't seen one around, but there is lots of pekinese.
and karaokeskinny went home for the mid automn festival. it turned out she isn't from Shandong University, but from Chungking.

Your 'paranoia" is not only well founded but logical.
The coughing in your face, the spitting on the streets, the lack of hot water, soap or towels of any kind in the schools, minimal testing at airports, none at train stations or bus stations, the return to the dining table of exotic animals for food, underfunded hospitals that over prescribe medicine(antibiotics) for profits, the use of wooden chopsticks over and over in restaurants, eating from communal dishes, the lack of hot water and proper cleaning agents for dishes and cooking areas, undermanned food health inspectors, poor medical training, an inadequate health insurance system, a general lack of understanding of basic private and public health habits, all combine with a millions strong migratory population living in inadequate housing..........and you have the perfect habitat for some virus, SARS not being the really BIG ONE, to sleep quietly gaining strength until it's time has come, unreported by the government, to awake.
And then our time will come. Start running.
