After goggling for a few hours I believe this is what I got. It's a shame becuase it's my last night and I'm right across the street from Nateree and down the street from Posiedon. To my fault I do take long hot sauna baths. Guess I'll go overtip the girls at the Karaoke bars in this area instead...

Folliculitis is a superficial infection of the hair follicle. Hot tub folliculitis is a folliculitis that develops after exposure to certain forms of bacteria that reside in warm, wet environments such as hot tubs.

Hot Tub Folliculitis Symptoms & Signs

History of using hot tub within last three days itchy, bumpy, red rash appearing within 2 days of hot tub exposure bumps may develop into dark red tender nodules may develop small pustules (pus filled blisters) multiple members of family or party with same rash and same hot tub exposure

This condition usually clears. It may recur if the infected hot tub is not cleaned. Treatment may not be needed, as the mild form of the disease usually clears on its own. Oral or topical anti-pruritics ("anti-itch" medications) may be used. Physical examination combined with a history of recent hot tub use are sufficient for your health care provider to make this diagnosis. Testing is usually unnecessary. Careful attention to controlling the pH and chlorine content of the hot tub may help to prevent hot tub folliculitis.

The problem with many Asian doctors is "face". They don't like to ask for help from others because they might loose face.

This might even apply if two doctors are working on you at one time. If a doctor is assisting a more senior doctor in surgery, the younger doctor will not likely say anything that might be perceived as critical, even if he knows that the senior doctor has made a mistake. That is also why a doctor may keep trying to fix the problem himself with multiple surgeries, instead of asking for help from another doctor.

So it is not just a matter of intelligence, education, and experience. There are cultural issues to deal with.

Here's a story from the stickman site that would seem to highlight this

Smegma makes some good, valid points (aside from repeating himself, oh, about a gazilllion times), that could and should be applied to any hospital, anywhere in the world (there can even be bad hospitals in the US - gasp!).

In the end it comes down to trusting your gut feeling when dealing with doctors. Don't be afraid to request a different doctor when your gut tells you so, and foster relationships with doctors you feel comfortable with.

I entirely agree that there are other hospitals in Thailand that provide equally (or maybe even better??) service than Bumrungrad (Yanhee is a good example, though it's best known for plastic surgery), often at a substantially lesser rate than Bum.

This forum is filled with good suggestions, including dentists (some of which I aim to try out next trip). Just UTFSE for details

5555 You are funny. Funny that you of all people would say that. LOL.

Keep up the good work on the entertainment department Darry.

By the way, gut feeling may make you feel comfortable about the doctor, but I think it will not make him become better all of a sudden as a result of your good vibes imparting him of some sudden new knowledge and expertise. It goes beyond charisma and being charming. I would rather have a bad temper doctor that is good than one that is "nice and friendly" but knows shit. Somehow I sense you would agree too Daffy. Thus, I am confused about what you mean by this "gut feeling" thing.

Oh, and thanks for your vote of aproval. You saying that I make some good points means a lot to me. Really.

A gut feeling can take many different forms, and has absolutely nothing to do with 'charm or nice&friendly' - Generally, most people pick up on subliminal markers, something also known as 'intuition' - that's the kind of gut feeling. It differs from person to person, but generally most people can pick up on such vibes - just most people don't act on them (a conundrum, indeed).

I hope this clears up what I meant, as I was clearly not clear enough in my vagueness.

Daffy, thanks for the explanation. Not exactly what I had in mind. I guess I didn't explain myself clearly when asking. My fault.

However, I think you clarified very well what you meant by letting gut feeling be your guide when choosing a doctor.

I guess that explains why in this day and age vodoo medicine and santeria are still popular alternatives in some places. Some people get strong positive vibes from those practitioners.

Now, one more question: If two people get different gut feeling (vibes) from the same doctor what does that mean? Does it mean that the doctor would good for the guy with the good vibes and a bad one for the doctor with the bad gut feeling? Or can we compare vibes' intensity to find a prevailing and winning vibe for the specific doctor.

Thanks in advance for your answer Daffy. I really want to understand better what to do in the case of conflicting vibes.

Easy - just go with *your* gut feeling.

bimmher,

This may sound like a STD on doorknobs post, but you are right about those dirty towels. Ocular Chlamydia can be passed from towels like that, as the infectious agent that sits on them acts more virus like than bacteria like until it gets into you system. This ocular form can then be transmitted back and forth between your private parts doing what the medical lads call "auto infection."

One of the reasons that Chlamydia causes permanent scarring, is because those little nasties that sit on things like towels (and infected pussies) bloom into full blown organisms once inside host cells, then lyse (break open) the host cell to release more of the little nasties which seek more host cells. The destruction of the host cells can cause permanent scarring on the inside and outside of your johnson.

Okay, don't ask me how I know this...
