my thai dentist from bumrungrad who was chooled at Chula, I asked her if Bumrungrad was the best hospital, she chuckled, and said more like the best marketed around. I couldn't believe she said that... an employee, a doctor nonetheless, at bumrungrad.

i've heard BNH is good, but someome told me the other day that Praram 9 is where the celebrities go.. can't confirm that though.

I hate to play the devil's advocate, so I won't, but did anyone sift through the litany of e-mail correspondence between [mainly] the father to the medical director of BUMRUN...it's an interesting read....I think I would have questions for both sides! Tragedy nonetheless...

There are at least two sides to every story, this website tells one side of the story, it's purpose is to discredit the hospital.

dcutter, I did read the page of correspondence with the director at the hospital. Intersting. The father put up this website after the hospital didn't accept giving the amount of money the father wanted as "settlement".

There did appear that the kid who died had a former dependency/drug abuse of some sort, though the details of that are sketchy at best. I got the impression that this had some impact on the "treatment" he received up north and when he got to BKK, but I'm interpolating from what little there is on the site.

Regardless, the thing was handled very poorly by the hospital staff, a major f***up. They should have been more congnisant of what they were doing.

"5. May I have a full copy of the psych evaluation which led to the
conclusion that such a drug was appropriate? Josh was agitated because the
prescriptions of the morphine, methadone, ativan etc re-ignited an addictive
episode for him....hence his need for more and more optiates, at shorter
time intervals etc. I don't think he entered the hospital in an addicted
state but without the baseline blood evaluated at the time of admission, can
we ever know that? "

The kid was apparently using both heroin and amphetamines..

while I understand that the father feels a great loss, he should be looking at why his kid ended up in the hospital for drug usage (apparently had been in seven months earlier for the same thing)

It seems a bit like typical American behaviour, f*** your kid up and then when something goes wrong call out the attornies??

555, I think you could accuse the LOS locals of such

when the kid is killed, the grief is outweighed by the need for monetary settlement

so is it greed or grief ?

Your choice of hospital in Bangkok is common sense I reckon. When my missus was pregnant, lots of expat women here told me to avoid Bumungrad as thay have a high caesarian birthrate and Samitivej was best. Well, we went to Samitivej for about 4 months for general check ups and they were fine, if a little expensive. I then asked them how much the delivery was likely to cost. They told me 80-120k for natural and 180-250k for caesarian. I asked about packages and the doc told me that the management were 'moving away' from budget births and were targeting high end clients.
We decided to take our business to Praram 9 hospital as they offered a package of around 30k for natural. When we called Samitivej to collect our file, the management told us it was a bad move to change doctors and that suddenly they were introducing a new package. We told them we weren't interested and collected our file, which must have been put together in a hurry cos we have a few pages from another woman included. This was disappointing as I had received excellent service from Samitivej for over 10 years. Anyway, Praram 9 did a good job, if a little basic.
Still, compared to Australia where they health care is scary, all Bangkok hospitals are first class.

Medical care is dodgy these days wherever you go. I have had a lot of good medical care here, especially dental. The one problem at Bumrungrad I have found is the medicine which is prescribed. I had a kidney problem earlier this year and now when I go back for a different problem and I ask the doc if the medicine he is prescribing has any affect on this condition he always says no. But when you do even a bit of research you find that it has. I also recently needed some rehab on an injury and the doc was prescribing medication way too strong.

Now I won't take any medicine without doing research
