80-120k for natural and 180-250k for caesarian

well, it seems obvious why Bumroongraht is so into doing C-Sections

and that pricing is a total rip-off

Pattaya-BKK runs about 30k, same as Pra Ram 9

FARK that !!!!
Recent bills from Aus doc was $4,000 included birth natural or caesar,, thats about 115,00BHT.
Not including hospital accomodation.

With these staggering price rises across BKK, perhaps Thai's will be coming to Aus for cheap pussy,,,LOL.

Thank god for Isaan, can still get a good meal for 30 BHT, a good f*** for 500 BHT, decent Scotch for 150BHT, ice for 10 BHT a big bag, Bungalow for 350 BHT etc etc.

Interesting that the website intermixes references to malpractice and pre-meditation:

"As a result of recent findings, we believe that the death of Joshua Goldberg may have been pre-meditated."

Given my experiences in Bumrungrad, I wouldn't doubt a case of malpractice. But "pre-meditated" would seem to be incompatible with "malpractice."

IE, Killing the guy wasn't a mistake if they intended to do it.

I had both an endoscopy and colonoscopy at Bumrungrad in June. They were not going to be covered by my insurance and would have cost me $5-6,000. In BKK, the price was $800. It was clearly a case of medical tourism on my part.

It was my 4th endoscopy. The third one, at my local hospital, was the most terrifying experience of my life. It was worse than my 2 open-heart operations. I was choking & gagging throughout it, and the doctor clearly didn't care. My throat was sore for over a week. I would have punched him had he not been twice my size.

In BKK, there were no complications at all. There wasn't even a slight scratch to my throat, and I received a DVD movie of everything. The doctors and nurses were awesome!

I won't identify my local hospital, but I can honestly say that it's probably one of the 10 most expensive in the US. A few years ago, a surgeon here did a relatively routine operation on a teenager. Shouldn't have been compliated, but for several days she got sicker and sicker. The autopsy revealed that the surgeon had knicked her large intestine when he was closing. She died from her own sh*t, literally. They didn't close the hospital or lower their fees.

I'm in the medical field and know that hospitals can be the most dangerous place in town. I nearly died once from a hospital-acquired staph infection. My doctor was sharp enough to suggest passing on the culture, because I probably wouldn't live to see the results and recommended treatment. There isn't a hospital on Earth that doesn't get its reputation tainted at times.

I was working in another Colorado hospital 2 years ago when an accident victim became a donor, even though all but one of the required "tests" were skipped. It was in the local newspaper, front page. Someone, somewhere, was paying enough bucks for an organ that they never made sure he was going to die on his own. It all blew over, no charges.

I wish the above wasn't true, but you can find documentation of it throughout the Internet and certainly in the medical journals. Doing your homework is important, but it's no more a guarantee in a hospital than the local car repair shop. Mistakes happen, sometimes because the caregiver hasn't slept in 2 or 3 days. It may be because he/she was overworked, or it could just as easily by a bad instance of insomnia.

The most sobering thought of all is how bad it would be if we didn't have JCAHO. Their standards seem almost impossible to meet. You should take a look sometime. Yet they are still not a guarantee of 100% success. You still need a bit of luck on your side.

Interesting point - it's a well-known fact that in our Wstern hospitals, most interns, and oftentimes also emergency room doctors, pull multiple shifts, and are often near their breaking points in terms of fatigue.

I wonder what the situation is in places lke Bumrungrad - I would figure since most doctors are US educated, they did their fatigue training on our turf, but I just wonder if that same continues there?

premeditated sometimes holds true along with malpractice in LOS, and possibly a lot of places

I've seen people get wheeled in and were given no care, because they could not identify the person and he was not well dressed

in other words, they don't know who will be able to pay for the person's care

so they let them lay there and die

IMHO that is both malpractice and premeditated

seems to me that they are violating the hypocritical oath to do some thing like that

I seen one doctor not there for 2 years now I need her work for my back it really helps my whiplash. If I need to see another doctor I always ask her what doctor is good and she tells me the name. Thats the way it works in Thailand you need to listen to you friends and fam for good people.

But sure they are very quick to let you come for a operation and its will cost you.

According the doctors I spoke to the guy that died had drug problems and they could not save him. I do not know if that is true or what really took place.

Great thread this.....

I used to be of the opinion that Bumrungrad was Thailands best hospital. After reading this it appears it may not be the case. I have course read the posts and have an idea on pricing etc, as well as information from the websites. But, in general are any of these hospitals cheaper than the others? Or does it depend on the service performed?

I'm just keeping my options open on continuing going to Bumrungrad or try somewhere else.

Specifically, I am referring to the main ones (did I miss any?)

* Samitivej
* Bumrungrad
* BNH
* Praram 9

I don't want to risk my health by choosing a cheaper option, but hey....If I can be treated just as well at another hospital at a cheaper rate...why not?

Merry Xmas to all

Regards,
Skippy

My take on 3 of the hospitals you mentioned......

Sametivej. From the mid 1980s to mid 1990s this was THE hospital to go to in LOS if you had the $/Baht. But then the hospital was hit by a scandal (don't recall the specs of the wrongdoing) and lost a lot of their patients. I recall the bad media about them quite clearly, and everyone telling me to stay away.

I would say Sametivej has rebounded from those days and is still a good choice for those living on upper Suk. Lots of the same docs work there a few days a week and also do Bumrungrad on other days.

BNH. A much smaller hospital then Bumrungrad, but most people I know have received generally good care there. At one point, the famous Dr. Irene saw about 90% of their pateints, but that has since changed. BNH is nowhere near as large as Bumrungrad if you are looking for specialists, but they are gradually getting there. BNH has a nice dental clinic as well.

Bumrungrad. I have been there plenty of times over the years and have generally been pleased with the service and quality.

The key at this place is choosing the doctor. If you just go into the queue and accept whoever they give you, you might be in for a rough ride. I have had some horrible docs there.

But if you ask around and check the docs qualifications on the web, you will most likley be fine. When I take the time to do the research, I would say about 95% of the time I have received quality docs at 1/5 to 1/10 the cost (though rising) of the West.

Of course, there are exceptions, but my experience has been good in most cases.

The great thing about Bumrungrad is that you can get in to see Western trained specialists often on the same day. You may have to wait a while, but they will see you. Try getting in to seeing a neurologist in the USA on the same day - no chance!
