All,
I am new to this forum and I am quite astonished when I read several times that people are paying 500 Baths when doing an oil massage to get a hand job.
The last time I was in Phuket (1st time Thailand and massage), I booked an oil massage for 300 Baths and the lady gave me a HJ without talking about money. I just gave 30 Baths tip after (10%).
Is HJ always usually considered as an extra ?
Are there any MP in BKK that do it as a standard with an oil massage without additionnal "commercial" negociations ?

HJ is considered extra at most places in BKK. Lots of thinks are different in Phuket.

Yes bro a HJ is considered an extra and she obviously assumed you knew that there would be a charge for the service. Sounds like she may have been new.
BTW- Here in the USA we usually tip at least 15% for good service  . Peace

The MP was in patong in a small street off Beach road. Cannot remember the name. It was not far away from Bangla road. Looked like a "serious" TTM-MP to me and I did not expect any extra at the time, which made the HJ an good surprise!
the woman was an older one (30+) and not new to the business as the massage was very good.
@cmore : I'm starting to understand why americans are commonly accused of giving a boost to local prices wherever they go on vacation

Actually it's the damned Japanese...
As for tipping, you incredibly cheap little man, how much do you think the poor girl gets from the 300 baht for an hour (or 2?) of rubbing your pasty white body? Probably barely enough to buy something to eat.
30 baht ($0.75) for giving you a nice happy ending? Most places want at LEAST 500 baht. You could have been a nice guy, and given her, like, 200, without causing the collapse of your home country's economy, now, couldn't you?

Great reply! It is sort of naive to assume that for 300 Baht you would get a massage + any additional extras. Perhaps we Americans tend to think in relative terms and don't get nearly the vaction as our EC brethern, so we spend when we travel. However, to think it is OK to leave less than 1 Euro for anytime type of service where manuel labor is required, seems to be curious to my American mind. Even were one to argue that it is not part of one's culture to tip at home, a little bit of research (i.e. this forum) would illustrat that tiping for certain things int he country you are visiting are expected.

Are you by any chance Canadian? They are good chaps but well known to be cheap as hell when it comes to showing appreciation for good service.
In my books a HJ after massage deserves 500 baht these days, unless there was something very wrong with it. Perhaps a bit less up country. Thirty odd years ago one could be by with 100 baht without hurting feelings.
