You can approach the street May's massage is located in either from Soi 19 or Soi 21, but May's massage is almost at the corner of Soi 21.

When I passed by there were 4 or 5 staff outside, all sitting on the front, 3 guys and 2 ladies. one of the guys was smoking his cigarette.
I found the picture very off putting so instead of going to May (which was my intention) I went to Maleen instead.
If you are going to put your staff outside to poach customers from the street, make sure they have the attitude matching the "Image" you want to create.
I think that for a tourist, price isn't the main issue (especially when we are only talking about a couple hundred baths), the place needs to look clean and inviting.

Same experience two months ago. Walked past and saw three men and two women. Both men and women were calling out to me saying "massaaaaage". The men seemed gay.
Very off putting. I walked past.

Went to the one between Soi 19-21 and there were only men there so we left. Went to Soi 23 and one lady and rest were men. Went to Maleen and massage was very good. Was surprised a happy ending was offered since the walls don't go all the way up. Doubt if I am going to bother going to May's in the future since I rather not get massaged by a man and both times I went there were only men visable.

I passed by many times the last 2 weeks when I went to or came from the MRTA station on Asok.
Almost all of the time I saw at least 2 or 3 ladies visible from the balcony.

Finally made it to May's massage inside the cross lane connecting Suk Soi 19 and 21. After a couple of wrong attempts to get to the stairway I was almost beginning to hate the guy who I had seen climbing happily up just seconds ago as I was approaching. Just then the guys on the mobikes outside showed me the way to get there and I was breathing freely again like a man who too had made the cut.
Agree with most everything posted by JW and NF about the attitude and feel of the place. Saw several family type foreign Asian women in the place, which indicates this is a preferred joint. I opted for 1 hour Thai and was allotted to a guy who escorted me up. Half way up the stairs I asked for a lady. The massage was fair but for some reason in the darkness I kept getting this feeling that the lady was smiling and her colleagues at the adjacent mattresses were sharing a joke. Were they pulling a fast one on me by fobbing off a long haired guy as a lady on me ?
At the end of it I asked for an oily and she was happy. I was escorted to an adjacent narrow room with a dim light. Now I confirmed it was a lady indeed, slightly middleaged but with a pleasant smile. The so-called "hot oil massage" was not hot as such but generated heat on application. It was uneventful too, and she was speaking in Thai and apologising for her "little bit" English. At the end I had to take a short walk round the passageway to a shower room where I had a shower in solitude.
At the reception I paid 100 for the TTM + 300 for the Hot Oil massage + 200 tip for the masseuse. The young good looking girl at the reception caringly sought my opinion on the massage and, on being assured that it was positive, expressed hope to see me again when I came next to Bangkok. There were a few young pleasant looking guys in orange shirts who kept glancing at me in the manner NicF described earlier on, as I sipped the herbal tea offered to me and called out "come again" as I left. Thumbs up.
