An update on Hair Design.
Went there last night around 7 PM. 5-6 massage girls sitting around, plus the massage cashier and a bar tender girl. All of the girls looked about the same to me so I took the one that was offered as "next in line."
I took 1 hr OM. The girl changed from skirt and button-up shirt to shorts and t-shirt. Solo shower, followed by a soft, gentle, OM. I prefer that to feeling like every bone in my body has been broken. The only thing I didn't like was that she poured way too much oil on my body. Took me 10 minutes in the shower to get most (but not all) of it off.
At the end she rested her hand on my most sensitive pressure point and asked, "special mai"? Yes, I said. She sat on the bed next to me, facing away from me. The HJ was good but not outstanding. Towards the end I turned her around so that I can see her and touch her from a different angle. The clothes never came off and it didn't seem like an option, but she didn't seem to mind being touched.
I slipped her a 500 and received a wai.
Seems like Hair Design remains what it's always been--a reliable, though unremarkable, HJ joint.
Afterwards I talked to the bartender girl and she said they barely get any customers during the low season. In the high season she said they have 10-15 girls on premises and the place is hopping.
The massage cubicles are on the second floor, a dark area with with wooden partitions and courtains and communal shower down the hall. Not sure what's on the first floor, looked like a storage area. As a point of interest, on the ground floor, right behind the sofa where the massage girls are seated, there are two barber chairs, inside rooms that have solid walls and real doors. They appear to offer a lot more privacy than the massage cubicles upstairs.
Any idea what goes on (or can go on) in the barber chairs?

Confirmed... haircuts. And shaves, manicures, ear-cleaning.. the usual stuff. Two semi-private rooms on the ground floor and two more on the 1st floor (not storage... an underused foot massage area). The walls of these rooms are solid, but don't reach the ceiling. Ask for Dao... very competent haircut/shave and companionable... speaks adequate English.
House policy forbids FS, as posted elsewhere... but if you are a regular and known/liked by the provider this policy is sometimes ignored...

Indeed it was. Besides, with the main spots being closed for drinking, that led to my thirst for beer being stronger than normal.
Thus the 6,7,8-hour drinkathon at Hair Design.
I'm still planning on an early November return. Should be shoveling out for a ticket next month if all goes kosher. (fingers crossed)

Only want to chime in with the usual report.
A reliable place for a decent oil massage and an easily negotiated finish.
At 350/hour and an assumed 500 tip for HJ--this place is a bit like going to the Saturn dealership. If you find a girl in the window there that you like--go for it. Otherwise, just pass and come back later.
The easy negotiation is what I like here. In my 7-8 years, I have only had one lady at this place ask for more than 500. And she is not working there anymore.

diegobangkok, This is one service area the Viets are a mile infront of the Thais. My second visit to Nam in 2001 I got a great hair-cut neck / head shoulder massage and a very memorable head job ( blow job) for US$10
