In reality it seems that some men need the victory of 'sex for free'. Paying for it means a guy doesn't measure up as a man enough for the girl to let him have it, whatever sex 'it' is, for free or as a goft.
So the next best thing is to almost pay nothing. The smaller amount of money that is paid means the guy is closer to the ultimate high, of sex for nothing.

After reading this thread, I think it's time someone came to the defense of Latrell. Let's all remember this is Latrell's first visit to Thailand, he didn't fully understand the customs, mistakenly thought the HJ was a standard part of the service (the woman never mentioned otherwise), and tipped what he thought was a standard 10%.
I'm not sure someone is intentionally taking advantage of someone else here. How many new visitors to LOS get ripped off by taxi drivers, BG's, etc just because they don't know the ropes? This is just the other side of the coin, or three 10-baht coins, as the case may be.
Latrell, I hope you'll be more generous on your next visit.
