Moving into a new apt is always a dicey proposition. Will it be noisy? Will the neighbors be friendly? What is the landlord really like - after he has extracted the security deposit from you and etc.
My problem has turned out to be a horny cricket who has taken up residence in one of the potted plants or trees on my patio. I think he is horny and calling for a female of the same species. He reminds me of some farangs in the nana hotel parking lot at 3:00 am.
since I am on the 40th floor, the sucker has to chirp REALLY LOUD to attract a "TG" cricket. He would probably even settle for a "BG" cricket fresh from Thermae.
As hard as I looked, I can't see him. I didn't have a stick, so I poked around the plants with the maid's toilet bowl cleaner, but the khun jing leet would show himself. It sounds like he is the corner hiding in the small trees, so I finally started hurling large pots of water at the trees.
That shuts him up for maybe 2 minutes, but his sexual needs outweigh his caution and he starts up again. I asked the maid what to do about this; and she told me he is just horny and she will spray the patio next monday.
If I didn't think my downstairs nieghbor would complain, I would gladly piss on the greenery.
As I am writing this, the asshole is happily chirping away.
Any suggestions?

Cricket noises at night are a a big pain! so much for sleep in the house......a single cricket can hide in very small cracks; cement penetrations patio door frames or AC mechanical areas, then scurry around at night seekin poon tang singin the top #1 bkk go go hits " I wanna be with you baby" and "come see me in my hi-so patio"
I had a small farm house where crickets loved to nest... extermintors did their job, but they liked the main door frame the most.... I removed the trim and whaa laa! found a fest orgy of em and sprayed away with Raid....then I used insulating spray foam around frame to fill the voids and replaced the trim back....no more crickets after that....try cricket formula spray first.... Big C Lotus or Home Pro maybe your bldg eng may know good insecticide to use... check your main entrance door bottom seal.... if you see light through cracks then pest will come
Keep the patio clean, cut back the plants, buy a tennis racket bug zapper for mosquitos and flies too and spray often.....on the 40th floor usually pest dont live that high except swallow birds flyin around.... black widow spiders, gecko lizards, and scorpions eat crickets ! that is if you dont mind them crawlin around at night while your restin * )

BK - If I could see him, he would be history. He is very well camoflauged.
Doctor Love - Either he must be a really skanky looking jing leet or it's not worth the effort of a female cricket to make her way up to the 40th floor when the pickings at street level are better.
I hate to lose - especially to a bug!
I think StrayGypsy is on the right track - it's time for all-out war. I am going shopping at Villa or foodland this morning and hope to find cricket spray or its equivalent. if not, I will make the trek to Bic-C. then its back to my condo and pull out the big guns.

The other way to get the critter is to get a Purple light and under have a bowl filled with water, bugs loves this purple light and hits the light than falls into the water, this is how they catch them in Thailand with out the use of chemicals.
Or try this 1. Empty and clean a jar.
2. Create a solution of water and molasses.
3. Fill the jar with your new cricket attractant solution.
4. Place jar where you have been noticing crickets chirping.
5. Crickets should be attracted to the solution, attempt to feed, and be drowned when they fall into the jar.

jingjo - non of the horny TG's will come near my condo because of the noisy cricket. he makes more noise than a bg faking the clouds and the rain!
this critter is cutting into my love-life big time!
went shopping at villa this morning with BK and found a can of raid that might do the trick. I thought the bug on the can was a cricket, but BK informed it was a cockroach.
i like your molasses solution. I will pick up a jar if the roach spray fails to silence the jing leet. even though I am not allowed to work on a retirement visa, I wonder if there is a market for molasses dipped jing leet on a stick. maybe I could become a silent distributor for the khon kaai yuu thii soi sip saam khrap........

watch out for ants though... with anything sugar based
crickets can hide out in the smallest of cracks too...where a general spraying not effective....have to find a source hiding spot
they create an orgy nest too... babies everywhere...
what what Ive noticed with past homes....crickets tend to hang around in higher places vs crawling around the ground...they fly toward hiding spots and crawl to upward areas
be friend a larger buddah sized freelancer gecko or lizard.... Mochit has plenty for sale up there.... they love to stick to the ceilings and chase sex freaky crickets around givin them french kisses when they roll out thier tongues.... the other alterantives black widow spiders and scorpions may involve a trip to the BumG for anti poison shots or possibly muscle seizers.....
naa find the right hole and right spray...cover the cracks with duct tape or rag towels.... many Thai homes main entrances have their doors cut wrong at the base with no pest or weather seals either allowing pesty critters to enter....
on trips with bungaloo rooms just invite the big geckos in... tell your GF not to be scared..geckos good for room they eat bugs !.... clean your kitchen and dump your garbage out a lot...ants are way common and cockroaches suck they can live in the drains too!
still though 40th floor condo patio? must be a Hi So cricket callin for Penthouse modeleske' C 4 P chirpin his heart out and promisin hot tubs massages wine cheese flat screen xxx with latest Thai MTV hits and more fridge raids for veggies if needed.... crickets probably crawl from patio to patio doin each other...think like spiderman they can crawl on walls and ceilings without any trouble...light fixtures can hide them also!
