Left a sleeping Dew in my Soi15LoveShack and got some work done, then flew to Manila for a quick two day holiday. Landed 4:15pm. I went upstairs to departures to avoid the whole taxi scene (which, in researching it, I didn’t quite understand). Also, there are three airports in Manila (Philippine Air terminal, domestic other than Philippine and International other than Philippine) and I didn’t have an advance understanding of how each worked. When in doubt, go upstairs! There was a guard at the stairs, so I told him some bullshit about having to change a ticket and he let me through. To get into the terminal building, you have to go thru metal detector. This whole city seems to be on full-scale terror alert compared to Bangkok. Outside, got a taxi that was in better shape than any others that I saw, but was still falling apart. He knew where the hotel was and we were on the way, using the meter! Easy.  Driver speaks good English.
First thought looking around, this place is a f***ing hole. I imagine people getting shot in the streets that are near the airport.  Cars are falling apart, trash everywhere, you get the picture. Traffic is shit but before long, we are at the hotel. Meter about 120 pesos. Metal detector at the door (and a few beggars too). I check into the Executive Plaza near L.A. Cafe. The rate is 1600 pesos if you book thru Action Travel - http://www.actiontravelac.com/ This is a very good rate for this hotel. Although there is no pool, the rooms are spotless.
BTW, the exchange rate is 130 pesos to 100 baht.
Walk around to get some money. My ATM card doesn't seem to work anywhere (but then I later figured out the ATMs won't dispense more then 4000 pesos at a time) so I exchange some Euro I had at one of the hundreds of exchange shops I see. I walk to Robinsons to get a SIM card, everyone entering any large building is searched and made to go through a metal detector. Hundreds of people are asking me for money or trying to sell me a watch. I'm not in Colorado anymore!
After I figure out how the SIM card works (150 pesos for the SIM card plus whatever load you have to put on), I send SMS to BTF member here who is a veteran of the scene in Manila (I’ll let him post a reply to this if he wants). I tell him I hate this place, I just want to go to my hotel room and watch a movie. He calls me and tells me to snap out of it, be a man and get my ass to Jools and see some hot chicks! I go to an Internet cafe and many girls are chatting to their boyfriends online (same same Bangkok). I walk back to Robinsons mall and grab some food there, trying not to eat anything that will give me the shits! It’s already getting late, so I just walk to the two blocks to LA Cafe and grab a beer. I am overwhelmed. Kind of like a cross between CM2 and the BeerGartenSoi7 but with hundreds of more attractive women. Play some pool there and chat with a few girls. Now I’m starting to get into the groove.
In my eyes, in beauty, the filipinas are a step or two above Thai girls. But this is because of my taste in women! Their English is very, very good and even when I cut out the half of them with any fat on their body, and those that are ugly, my selection is still huge. Every filipina girl I met here is very, very polite. I settle in at the bar, talk to a few girls and eventually settle in with a very cute girl named Hazel in my arms, and her two friends wanting me to take 1, 2 or all 3 of them. None of them asked for drinks, but I get some for them anyway (80 pesos each).
Did I mention all these girls' English was good!
Debating between taking Hazel or Honey. I check them both for tattoos. Hazel looks like she has a hot body and Honey’s face is as beautiful as Miss Philippines. But Hazel sticks her tongue down my throat, so she's the one (I should have taken them both!) I was going to tell her how much I would give her but I ask her instead. She says 1500 (1100 baht) for ST and 2000 for LT, I just say OK, not committing to ST or LT. We hang around for awhile just shooting the shit, back to the hotel, showers, and a great blowjob and a passionate screw.  This girl is totally uninhibited and would let me do anything I wanted. Moaning, screaming, ass-slapping, no problem. She also was happy to try to jump on me without a condom, and actually seemed a little put off I wanted to wear one.  After the screw, we watched some of a movie. When the movie ended, I sensed that she'd rather take off than stay (she says she sleeps every day at 8am and wakes up at 5pm). OK with me, I tell her she can go, no problem. She gives me her number so that I can call her if I want (I might call her to get Honey's number and screw her today).
Manila is OK, only been her for 18 hours but the quality of girls (in my eyes) is excellent and their English completely blows the Thai girls away. I could get used to this. Off today and tonight to find other areas for fun without getting killed.
Juniper told me before I came here that I should be careful what I eat because I will get sick. I have drank only bottled water or bottled beer, I ate a spaghetti dinner in the mall, had coffee and a muffin this morning, now I think I am starting to get the shits. How did that happen? Never been sick (EVER) in Thailand. I'll keep you posted.

Nice FR so far. The PI is famous for its shits, be careful. I had a trip ruined by it one time. The shits turned into fever, vomitting, neon urine, everything. Looking back I should have gotten out of the country and to a hospital but I was real dumb back then.

Actually, I was being a little too harsh on Manila, mainly because it isn't Bangkok. I'd been coming to Bangkok for a long time before I went to Pattaya or Phuket, and my first impression of those places was negative because they weren't Bangkok.
But my first night in Manila wasn't bad, I had a great time talking to a bunch of cute and nice girls in LA Cafe, and I had great sex with an uninhibited hottie. Not a bad start.

I was actually picking up on the omnipresent metal detectors everywhere, that you described - which is usually indicative of bigger problems in a culture than I want to deal with. If there were metal detectors in every GoGo, Hotel and Restaurant in Bangkok, chances are it would not be one of my favorite vacation destinations to this day.
Besides, as you said - you are comparing it to Bangkok -- and if aht's the frame of references, and the pi is a couple of steps down, in comparison, I don't really see the advantage (aside from, possibly, the girls speaking more English - but to be honest, I prefer a country where I am forced to adapt, instead of the other way around. I find the whole 'what did she say?' method of forced adaptation to be more fun) (though it can be frustrating at times as well, granted)

It never ceases to amaze me how people with similiar wants can see different places with so great a veriation.
For me Vietnam ( been there 8 or 9 times) is very very safe, people super friendly and girls absolutely beautiful. Phillipines ( 3 times),, yes manilla traffic is BAD news,, girls, yes speak English with a very annoying accent,, grates on my ears. Yes many beautiful faces on phillipina women but pussies you must be careful of,, if you fall in ( they are big enough to swallow whole an 80 KG man) you may never find you way out.
Outside of Manilla there are many beautiful and cheap places to stay example Pouerto Galera,, but I recommend taking a Thai or Viet gal with you so you don't dissapear head-long into a huge hole called a pussie.
