I havent been in Philppines for 25 years so of course I remember nothing. Have some time to spare and just want to be a "tourist" somewhere in the country for a week.
To put it short - IŽd like to ask you more experienced bros: flying out from Bangkok - would you go to Manilla or some other place? What good hotel would you choose? I want at least 4 star. And preferably close to action and things to do! Any other useful tip?
I plan to jump a plane (Philippine airlines?) in a week so any tip to a total newbie is more than welcome!

If you're not there for pussy - I suggest Palawan. Strickly BYO. Most stunningly gorgeous place I've seen on this planet. It's got it all - mountains, waterfalls, pristine lakes, wreck diving, underground rivers, islands with beaches on the inside, but no BGs. $25 flights on 3 different airlines from MNL. one of the best one-day trips I took was to Corregidor Island to see where Gen MacAurthur held out during WWII. It was a little long, and expect hot weather. Up to you, but, it was a good day trip. The ferry leaves from the boating area in Manila not too far from the US Embassy on Roxas BLVD. If you meet a girl, ask her is she wants to come along - company is always good.

Palawan or Boracay for the Beachs, Manila for the best looking pussy, Angeles for the cheapest Pussy. Try to stay in Makati away from the more dangerous areas but close enough to go to the Manila Cafe or EDSA (Manila version of Nana) or Air Force One Flight 168 MP!
